Nease senior and recent University of Oregon commit Rheinhardt Harrison kicked off his cross country season on Saturday winning the Ridgeview Bob Hans Invitational in Orange Park, Florida with ease clocking a time of 16 minutes flat for the victory. It was his first race since running in the adidas Dream mile on the roads of Boston in May before shutting down his track season.
Bale-N-Trail this weekend and Katie Caples Invite on September 25th are the next meets on the Nease schedule, so looks like will be more local competitions in the Jacksonville metro area for the national class star Harrison in the first month of the season.
His next closest competitor at the Bob Hans Invite was 53 seconds behind him in Ponte Vedra senior Quinn Remisiewicz at 16:53 for second place, who held off Ridgeview's James Snipes in third place at 16:55.
The Bartram Trail boys executed a perfect pack running strategy to win the team title with a spread less than second for their top five runners as actually, they had six runners come in all together at the finish for an impressive sight at the meet between 10th and 15th place, while two additional runners five seconds right behind them in 17th and 18th place.
Bartram Trail tallied 60 points in the 22 team field for first place and 20 points ahead of Mandarin with 80 points.
The girls' competition was incredibly tight to determine the individual and team winners. It went down to only two seconds of separation and a one-point margin to determine both. Ponte Vedra senior Ellie Moritz not only outkicked Nease senior Audrey Singletary to win the race overall with a time of 20:35, but also if she had not held on for first place then Ponte Vedra would not have won the team title over Bartram Trail.
Bartram Trail girls tried to execute a similar pack running as a group like their boys and it almost paid off for a sweep of the team titles with a 34-second spread among their top 5 runners. Ponte Vedra had two freshmen among their top 3 finishers behind race winner Moritz with top 15 finishes by ninth graders Daisy Ross in sixth place (21:29) and Banks Vadeboncoeur in 14th place (21:51).
