Caroline Lehman Runs 16:48 5K Indoors At Notre Dame

Cambridge Christian senior Caroline Lehman competed against collegiate competition at her future home of Notre Dame in the Meyo Invitational on Friday at their oversized 320-meter indoor track facility in South Bend, Indiana.

Lehman finished 3rd overall in the women's 5K with an indoor 5k best of 16:48.42 which was less than 5 seconds off the state record held by Kathryn Fluer at 16:43.70 from 2011 and 5 seconds faster than her winning time of 16:53.72 at the 2021 adidas Indoor Nationals. She had the 3rd fastest time impressively among the two 5K sections with 30 finishers as the only high school runner among the field. 

The incoming runner for the Fighting Irish is coming off a strong finish to her final season of high school cross country including a repeat as the FHSAA 1A state cross country champion, finishing 11th and just missing Eastbay (formerly Foot Locker) Nationals at the South Regional, and clocking a 17:03 5K cross country best at RunningLane National Championships. 

This spring, Lehman along with her teammate and training partner Mary Ellen Eudaly look to drop even more off their fast times from last spring as Lehman owns the Florida high school two-mile state record at 10:14 and is among the top 10 all-time for 1600 meters as well with a 4:46 best. 

She may get at another crack later this indoor season at the 5K state indoor record as well as see if she can better her own indoor two-mile record at 10:20.99 from last year's East Coast Invitational in Virginia Beach.
