Highlights of the FHSAA 1A State Championship

The FHSAA 1A State Championship started off with a 2-hour lightning delay, but when it got rolling, the athletes did not disappoint.   It featured a girl's triple winning performance, one three time winner, three double winners, a four-time State champion and a Team three-time Champion.

The Benjamin School boys won the 1A Boy's Team Title for the 3rd time with a team score of 89.50.



Evangelical Christian Sr. and University of South Carolina signee, Mckenzie Travis came in as the favorite in the 100m, 200m and 400m.  Four the past four years she has been one of the States top sprinters but had not won a State Championships.  Yesterday she won a very difficult triple.  She took the 100m in 11.65, the 400 in a PR 55.06 and the 200m in 24.05.

Shorecrest Sr. Sonoma Kasica won the Javelin for the 4th year in a row.  Her winning effort on the windy day was a 44.90 (147-03.00) effort.  She's headed to Notre Dame to play soccer!

Jr. Elizabeth Dowdy of the Maclay School won the Pole Vault with a vault of  3.77 (12-04.50) and just missed on a 2nd attempt at a new 1A State record of 4.05 13-03.50).  She won in 2022 and 2023 and has poised herself to become a four-time State champion.

Palmer Trinity's Henry Stark was the 1A boy's State XC Champion last fall and yesterday he had dominating performances in the 1600m and the 3200m.  He won the 1600 with a 4:16.76 and came back to win the 3200 in 9:18.02.

The Foundation Academy had two double winners.  So. Christopher Bronaugh took the boy's 100m and the 200m with times of 10.51 and 21.19 for his first State Championships.

Madeleine Gear defended her 1A 1600m title winning yesterday with a 4:52.84.  The University of Arkansas signee came back to win the 800m in 2:11.51.
