Due to the impact of hurricane Milton, the FSU Invitational/Pre-State will not be contested this weekend.
FSU Invitational/Pre-State Official Announcement
"Out of an abundance of caution and after ongoing discussions with Leon County official, we have made the difficult decision to not contest the FSU Invitational/Pre-Stare meet this weekend at Apalachee Regional Park.
With Hurricane Milton bearing down on a significant portion of the State of Florida, a great number of school districts and schools have restricted athletic teams from traveling through the remainder of the week. We must consider the travel conditions and the safety of everyone. Florida's major roadways are already congested, and adding more traffic in uncertain weather is not advisable. Additionally, Tallahassee has become a hub for evacuees and storm-related personnel to be housed. Many of the nearly 4,100 registered high school and middle school runners would be occupying bed nights which could otherwise be used for those facing uncertain circumstances as they leave their homes.
Visit Tallahassee, the Leon County Division of Tourism, wants to explore the possibility of rescheduling the meet for next Saturday - Oct.19, 2024. In order for that to be a viable option, we need all teams who would attend a rescheduled meet, to email me at bttrackguy@outlook.com by Friday, Oct. 11 at Midnight. If there are a significant number of schools interested in returning next week, we would hold the meet, utilizing your current registrations.
We know this is a lot to absorb at this difficult time, but hope you understand how we came to this decision. In the meantime, we kindly ask those of you with hotel reservations for this weekend to call and cancel, providing space for those who desperately need it.
Please stay safe and look after one another through Milton's arrival and in its aftermath. We hope to see you soon."
