The 2025 Florida Boys Distance Athlete of the Year is Joseph Socarras of Belen Jesuit. Tiago, who is headed to the University of Pennsylvania in the fall, had an impressive senior season. In March, he won the Mile at the Nike Indoor Nationals in 4:07.32. The third fastest indoor Mile run by a Florida boy. Considering both indoor and outdoor, his time would place him at No. 8 all-time for the Mile in Florida. He was undefeated in the 1600 and the 800 in the outdoor season, except for two regional state qualifiers. He successfully defended his 1600m and 800m 3A State titles, running 4:10.11 and 1:52.27, respectively. He also won the 800m at the Arcadia Invitational in April, with a time of 1:47.66, which moved him to the top of the Florida Boys all-time 800m rankings. Only two Florida boys have gone sub-1:48 in the 800m.
Senior Tywan Cox of Miami Northwestern is the 2025 Florida Boys Sprint/Hurdles Athlete of the Year. The University of Illinois commit was second in the FHSAA 3A 200m with a 20.74, ranking him Fifth on the year, and won the 400m, defending his state title, with a state-leading 46.06. In the 400m, Cox's only loss was to Quincy Wilson of Bullis at the Pepsi Florida Relays. The following day, Cox and Wilson went at it again on the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay with Cox passing Wilson in the finish straight away and getting the win for Miami Northwestern in a Florida AT best 3:08.74. Cox is ranked No. 5 in the 400m in Florida all-time with a 45.76.
Jason Atwood of CChiles HS, is the 2025 MileSplit FL Boys Field Event Athlete of the Year. The senior who is headed to Florida State University set a new Florida all-time record in the discus with a throw of 68.71m (225'-05.00"). His throw also ranks him at U.S. No. 5 all-time. Atwood's record throw came in the 3A Region 1 Championships and shattered the previous mark of 64.13m (210'-04.75") held by Jarez Parks of Sebastian River HS set in 2017.
