Just a few hours from now will be the start of the big race.
It\'s Deja Vu all over again, and I\'m going back to the FCCJ
course that I have not seen since my high school days when it was the
state course. It was Coach Nowicki\'s brain child to bring
together some long time running friends who have the connection
to the old course. It\'s down and dirty; it\'s a boys only race
(no girls teams here); and it is some of the best competition
one could hope for.
We are going to see the likes of Ryan Deak, Ryder Leary, Sammy
Vazquez and Steven Hassen going up against eachother to prove
once again who is the best in the state. That matchup sound
familiar? We were privy to such a race just a few weeks ago
at our own flrunners.com Invitational III. But this one I
fully intend to watch being that I was too busy being a meet
director to see much more than peaks of the previous matchup--so
man am I excited!!
So why then am I still here awake in my hotel room at 12:30 at night?
Maybe it is just pure excitement over possibly seeing a new three
mile course record being set in a few hours? Perhaps it is the fact that
I am a college student and my sleeping patterns could not exactly
be defined as \"normal\"? Is the hotel room too cold? Or maybe it\'s
the fact that I was caught without cash, the Waffle House across
the street from my hotel doesn\'t except credit cards, and I\'m wondering
whether Nowicki, Boza or some other kind soul is going to lend me some
cash flow tomorrow so that I can get my ID back?!?
What ever the reason I have nothing better to do then to sit back and
ponder tomorrow\'s events, hope I don\'t get lost in the morning maze of Jacksonville,
and write a pre-meet article with very little to do with running.
Bishop Kenny, Winter Park, Gulliver Prep, Tampa Jesuit, Maclay, Chiles,
Ocala Vangaurd, Flagler Palm Coast, and more--it doesn\'t get much better
than this!!!
