Girls 4A Districts Highlights
Largo senior Laiana McClinton, the defending 4A state champion in both the 100m and 200m, remains firmly in the title chases. Currently ranked No. 3 in the 100m (11.55) and No. 4 in the 200m (23.90), McClinton cruised through District 11 with wins in 11.78 and 23.90. She also placed second in the 400m (59.92) and contributed to Largo's winning 4x100 relay.
However, the 4A sprint picture is loaded. Vero Beach junior Taylor Nicole-Overton and Lake Minneola sophomore Vanessa Waite lead the charge across all classifications. Nicole-Overton (11.43) and Waite (11.53) rank among the fastest in the state, with Nicole-Overton dominating District 8 with a triple win in the 100m (11.86), 200m (23.72), and 400m (53.84), plus a leg on the winning 4x400 relay. Waite captured the District 4 100m (12.40) and 200m (25.00) titles while also running on the runner-up 4x400 relay.
The 200m is equally competitive, with four athletes under 24 seconds this season. Waite leads at 23.36, followed by Flanagan junior Lenee Barbary (23.69), Nicole-Overton (23.72), and McClinton (23.90). Barbary strengthened her position with a 23.69 win at District 15, where she also won the 400m (56.82) and ran on the winning 4x400 relay.
Nicole-Overton also headlines the 400m, where she is the U.S. leader at 51.64, a Florida No. 5 all-time mark. She eased to a 53.84 win at District 8, reinforcing her strength in the event.
In the distance events, Venice HS senior Atarah Robinson leads 4A in both the 800m (2:10.17) and 1600m (4:48.05). She advanced with District 12 wins in 2:12.68 and 4:55.86. Creekside's Sarah Rose (2:11.57) and Plant sophomore Katherine Eudaly (4:50.51) loom as her key challengers in the 800m and 1600m, respectively.
Spanish River junior Alba Antunez-Perez tops the 3200m rankings (10:23.76) and swept the District 13 distance titles in the 1600m (5:14.90) and 3200m (11:18.44), while also contributing to a winning 4x800 relay.
In the hurdles, Sickles sophomore Nia Armstrong, U.S. No. 1 in the 100m hurdles, advanced from District 10 after limited efforts, setting the stage for a major regional and State races. Meanwhile, Cypress Creek senior Alondra Rodriguez, the defending 400mH champion, remains in contention after winning the District 5 400mH (1:03.73) and 100mH (14.39).
In the field, Spruce Creek's Mikalyla Palmer claimed the District 2 high jump title (1.67m) as the event leaders advanced cleanly. East Lake senior Hayden Higgins had one of the top all-around performances, winning the long jump (5.91m), triple jump (11.53m), and both hurdle events (14.08, 1:02.89).
The triple jump features a tight competition, with Doral Academy freshman Ana Echevarria winning District 15 (11.50m) and Flagler Palm Coast senior Karina Marcelus, the solo girls over 12 meters this season, taking District 2 (11.89m) while also winning the 100m hurdles.
In the pole vault, Selena Gregory of Nease HS (3.80m) and Norah Garraughty (3.75m) remain the only athletes over 3.70m this season, with both advancing and set to meet in Region 1.
Winter Haven senior Olivia Celiscar, the defending shot put champion, leads 4A with a 13.49m mark this season. She won District 6 (12.33m) and added a runner-up finish in the discus. St. Thomas Aquinas senior Jasmin Morgan leads the discus (45.62m) and secured the District 14 title (38.64m).
In the javelin, Plant City senior Olivia Ennis continues to dominate nationally. The defending state champion launched a 49.88m throw this season, good for U.S. No. 1 and a Florida all-time best, and won District 9 with a 47.00m mark as she eyes another state title.
