FACA/flrunners.com CC Poll - 10/5/05

1A GIRLS RANKINGS, by: Gary Droze - GDroze@maclay.org

This update reflects the impact of the Flrunners Pre-State Meet
(which I am still in awe of…tremendous job by Jason, et al). From
personally running the course, I would call it a moderately fast venue.
I did take into account that the Small Schools racers endured more heat
than all others. Pre-State was such a "happening" that performances
there shifted multiple teams into/out of the top ten.

TOP TEN TEAMS

1. Holy Trinity Academy. 5th place in Flrunners ROC, 83 points ahead
of Maclay, even without using their entire arsenal. Still on track for
another State title.

2. Maclay. Their best team race of the season at ROC (20:38 average)
was still only good for 13th place! Lack of depth after current #6
remains the only concern for keeping this rank. Will need all girls
healthy to withstand attacks from next three teams.

3. Oak Hall. Ran an incomplete team at Flrunners. They stay ranked
here until or unless a lower-ranked team can boast a stronger #1 AND a
#5 in the low 22:00s.

4. Trinity Prep. First appearance in the rankings, thanks to 3rd
place in Small Schools Race at Flrunners, and team average of 21:58 in
the heat (spread of 20:34-22:41).

5. Berkley Prep. 7th in Invitational Race at Flrunners, with spread
of 20:48-22:42.

6. Shorecrest. 22:12 team average at Flrunners, with
21:27/21:37/22:30/22:39/22:48.

7. Dade Christian. A 22:56 team average at Flrunners.com earns them
an entry into the rankings this week.

8. Canterbury. 21:19 – 24:54 spread at Flrunners put them ahead of
a few other contenders in their division, but #5 time must come down for
them to hold this spot.

9. Indian Rocks Christian. I did not see anything that looked like
their varsity results at Flrunners meet. They remain here on the
strength of their other recent performances.

10. St. John Neumann. While they finished one place behind Covenant
Christian at Flrunners, rescoring the race with only 1A schools gives
them the slimmest edge.

Aucilla Christian and Benjamin are bumped out this week, ONLY
because there are so many teams so very close together from #7-#10 that
I now must go on latest stats. Both squads have the horsepower to climb
right back in with the next round of results.
The picture for now: HTA and Maclay look secure, with Oak Hall,
Trinity Prep, Berkley Prep duking it out for 3rd, and the rest of the
spots there for the taking!

GIRLS 3A RANKINGS, By: Tim Brooks - ktkbrooks@hotmail.com

First I want to brag a little about how well the 3 A girls performed at FLRUNNERS this weekend. The 3 A girls represented four out of the top eight teams in the race of champions. That is pretty impressive considering that at the beginning of this year ten out of the top twenty teams from last year girls 3 A states final moved on to other classifications. It was fantastic to witness all the races this weekend at FLRUNNERS especially Kelly Parish great individual effort in the Race of Champions. For those teams that did well this week at FLRUNNERS congrats and for those that stumbled a bit remember its not over yet just keep working hard. Please email me at ktkbrooks@hotmail.com if you have any information on any teams or individuals that I may have missed
Elite Six (These six teams represent the cream of the crop in girls 3A!)
1.Satellite (Solidified their position at the top this weekend. Finished 3rd in ROC)
2 Plant (I had this right in my first preseason ranking! Congrats girls you are now in the states runner up position. Finished 4th in ROC)
3.Vanguard (Fastest team time posted this weekend at FLRUNNERS in girls 3a states 1:39:48 Finished 7th in ROC)
4. Wharton (Has fallen a step behind the top three teams this weekend. Finished 8th in ROC)
5. Oak Ridge (Proved again this weekend that they belong in the elite six move up a notch as Chiles falters. Finished 17th in ROC with a team time of 1:45:16)
6. Nease (I said this team might surprise a lot of people and they did. Welcome to the elite six. Finished 16th in ROC with a team time of 1:45:50)
Rock the Top Teams (Six teams that have solid programs looking to move higher in these polls !)
7. St Thomas Aquinas (Glad to finally see a clearer picture regarding this team. I expect them to make a run at the top six sometime this year. Finished 20th in ROC)
8. Ft Walton Beach (In my preseason rankings I said I was going out on a limb for this team. This team is making me look good regarding that comment. Finished 5th in the Invite.)
9. Chiles (Hum this is where I faltered a bit in my rankings. Still in the top ten though and its not the end of the year yet so just keep working hard ladies. Finished 9th in the Invite.)
10. Ft Myers (They stay ranked in the top ten for now but will have to improve their team times to stay here. Finished 13th in the Invite)
11. Mariner (Nice showing this weekend by the Tritons. Finished 15th in the Invite.)
12. Rockledge (This team has bounced up and down in the polls showed up and ran a well this weekend. Finished 17th in the Invite)
The Dark Horses (Six teams to watch which could crack into the top 10)
13. Choctawhatcheee (Falterd a bit this weekend should be fodder for these girls to climb back up the polls. Finished 20th in the Invite)
14. Brandon (A true dark horse team coming out of no-where. Finished 19th at the girls Invite)
15. Lely (Finished 5th in the girls open this weekend)

Hopefully this helps all the individual runners see how they stack up against each other! Kelly Parish is a solid number one and Jamia Hutto now appears as the favorite for the runner up position with Brigithe Moreno fending off Heather Nicolosi for the 3rd slot. After that it gets crowded in a hurry with a host of girls duking it out for the top 10 spots.

4A GIRLS RANKINGS, By: Ary Montalvo - Amontalvo@belenjesuit.org

Flrunners.com Invitational made the rankings a little easier this week, some teams however did not make it, due to various reasons while other teams performed well and some just had an off day. Some teams rested some of their key runners either because of injuries or necessity. But, the good thing was that they all ran on the same course, perhaps not all at the same time of the day (which does make a difference).

Buchholz continues to impress with a fantastic 2nd place finish. Lourdes looked good for about the mile and half and then faded quickly over the last mile. Lake Brantley finished in the top 10 to take over 3rd place spot in the 4A classification and Riverview finished 14th to round out the top four spots. New add on to this week in the top 10 are Cypress Bay and Winter Park with some very nice performances in their races. If I missed anyone please e-mail me at the above address and send me the information on your team or athlete. I'm not perfect, but I am trying to give the recognition to the girls that train and work so hard. I wish everyone the best of luck this weekend.

1A BOYS RANKINGS, by: Doug Butler - coachdbutler@aol.com

Ok guys, only results for 1A boys this weekend I could find were from that little meet over in Dade City. If you ran somewhere else, I wish you would send me any ranking worthy results. Looks like this years 1A individual boys title is going to be a good one. Less than 1 second seperate our two front runners on Saturday. Teams shifted a bit this week as well, due to some not having a good week and others running season bests. Once again, we see our sleeping giant from Tallahassee raoring to life just as we near the post season. As I found out in the open race, \"Never underestimate Coach Droze or his teams.\"

Individuals

1. Kyle Cooke, HT 15:42 in a come from behind sprint finish for 4th in the ROC. Soph is a classic case of talent overcoming coaching.

2. Michael Anderson, PKY 15:42 and less than a second behind Cooke. Great race for the Jr. and continuing to improve.

3. Geoffrey Anderson, PKY 16:16 to win his race easily. Could be a big family day on November 12th.

4. Austin Joiner, HT 16:19 for a top 20 in the ROC for a good showing for the senior.

5. Nathaniel Taylor, HT 16:25 for 25th in the ROC and a better race this week. He will continue to improve.

6. Ryan Harris, OH, not a good race, but will bounce back
7. Chris Holstein, SJCD , No results this week
8. Brandon Imperiale, JC, No results this week
9. Kyle Butler, HT, 17:01 in ROC for a bounce back, and keeps his room at home.
10. Slater Stich, Warner Chr. 17:15
11. Keith Potter, HT , 17:19
12. Richard Blake, BP, 17:23
13. Kevin Lanza, TP, 17:25
14. Daniel Dunn, WC, 17:28
15. Randy Gousse, TP, 17:30

Teams

1. Holy Trinity: 16:33, Running well, but not all on the same day. Coach can\'t wait untill all 7 put it together on the same Saturday.

2. Berkley Prep; Great showing at Great American and even better at Flrunners. Nice work guys.

3. Trinity Prep: These guys are right with BP and on any given Saturday this could go either way.

4. Oak Hall: Good showing at Great American, but not so good day at Flrunners. They will bounce back and could just as easy be top 2.

5. PK Yonge: Great job by the front running Andersons and number 3 man is coming along also. If 4 and 5 come up with number 3, these guys are on the podium.

6. Maclay: Like I said, every November these guys climb back up. Coach D can turn prunce juice to wine. And do it in his bare feet!

7. Indian Rocks Christian: Just over 19 for team average. Front runner is there but they are lacking a little depth. Plenty of time to improve though.

8. Dade Christian; They come from the land of the unranked to jump up the charts. Very nice work in Dade City boys.

9. Westminster Academy: They are dead even with number 8 and a coin toss decided this one. Sorry, you guys had tails : (

10. Providence: A good race at flrunners for these guys as well. 19:45 average with time to improve before state.

Good Luck to all
Coach Butler

Team Rankings 2A Boys

1. Tampa Jesuit
Jesuit looked very vulnerable this weekend. Could the power house team from tampa be dethroned in november, Flrunners.com sure shook some things up.

2. Hernando
WOW! These guys ran well, living just a mere 6 miles from the state course these boys know it like the back of their hands. With the home course advantage they used every bit of their understanding of the course to be their when it counted. Looking at how they raced they matched up man to man against Jesuit pretty close, if not beating them in some instances. If their is a team to beat Jesuit this season, then this is the team. They also had the best 5th man. Look for hernando to be gunning for a state championship in November.

3. Bishop Kenny
This team just keep coming back for more. After losing 5 of their top 7 to graduation last year they reloaded and are back for more. Luke Russell is a strong front runner for this team and will be a contender for the individual state championship come November.

4. Lincoln Park Academy
They have a strong 1-4 but seriously lack a number 5. Look for this team to squeeze back into the top 3 by the end of the season.

5. Gulliver
Gulliver and Belen are tied at 5th right now. These teams always peak for the state meet and right now they are to close to call! Its going to be a battle.

6. Belen Jesuit
These guys are Animals! They only run when it counts! And when they run the run big!

For your Information!
Tampa Jesuit and Bishop Kenny will be having a Head to Head Dual meet this Friday, October 7, 2005. They will be competing on the track in a 2 mile at the half-time of Jesuit\'s football game. Upfront #1, James Osborne, and #2 Luke Russell, will be battling it out in what is sure to be a classic battle for the #1 spot in state. James has the slight lead over Russell with a 15:34 at Flrunners.com, however, Russell closed well and finished in 15:42. The battle behind these two should be even more interesting. With Tampa Jesuit having faultered slightly this past weekend, anything could happen!?!
