Tommy Schulte is an 8th-grader running for the Naples Elite this season; has quickly established himself among Florida's top-tier middle school boys' distance runners. Because St. John Neumann does not extend past 9th grade, the Naples-area standout competes as a club runner, making his rapid rise even more impressive.
Schulte has also built a stellar track resume. As a 7th-grader, he posted personal records of:
400m: 1:01.48
800m: 2:09.56
1600m: 4:57.89
3000m: 9:54.45
He has had a standout fall, most notably with a breakthrough performance at the 27th FLRunners.com Invitational. Schulte finished 3rd in the Middle School Race of Champions, crossing the line with a 3000m PR of 9:54.45, finishing just 7 seconds behind race winner Drake Matyka.
His time marks a dramatic 37-second improvement from his run on the same course at last year's FLYRA State Championship, where he posted a 10:31.40 to finish 15th.
His consistency this fall has been anchored by his strong early-season performances, including a 4th-place finish at the 18th Annual Jim Ryun FCA Invitational in Lakeland, followed by back-to-back victories at the North Port XC Invitational and the Ave Invite.
Ranked No. 4 in the state for Florida Middle School Boys 3000m, Schulte is currently one of only five boys to dip under the 10-minute mark this season. Backed by an exceptional work ethic and a willingness to learn, Schulte has bounced back impressively from an injury hurdle late in the spring track season and is poised to continue establishing himself as one of Florida's top middle school cross country runners as he finishes his cross country campaign. Watch for him, as he is one of Florida's FUTURE STARS.
