Meet Summary
It was a brisk evening at Trotters Park for the 40th running of the Edgewater Invitational.
The junior varsity races were a lesson in pack running. Several teams started out strong in the girls race, but it was the Lady Hornets of Bishop Moore that dominated from about a half mile on. Elizabeth Skipper, Haley Slocum, and Alyssa Hatton finish with a spread of just two seconds. Skipper wins in 21:36.87. The team wins with a miniscule 16 points placing runners in first, second, third, fourth, sixth, seventh and tenth. If what to expect in the future is a result of the junior varsity races than the Bishop Moore boys shall be good in years to come as well. More pack running executed to perfection. Junior Kyle Guldin leads the way with an 18:21.41. The Hornets win the team trophy with an average time of 19:06.03.
The varsity races were owned by a pair of siblings from Cypress Creek. Freshman Kaley Schmick showed why she is one to watch in the class of 2015 splitting up a pack of St. Cloud runners and cruising to the win in 19:04.59. Her time was more than 45 seconds faster than the Bulldogs Ashlyn Statdlander. The Osceola County school goes two thru four and places all seven in the top fifteen to win the team trophy with 23 points. Not to be outdone Schmick's brother Brennen battled it out with Seabreeze senior James Blasco, but pulled away at the two mile mark. He just missed a personal best by one second crossing the line in 16:30.61. Lake Nona won the team championship with an average of 17:34.21.
