Girls Winner: Brittney Olinger - Oak Hall
What was your gameplan coming into a preseason meet like this?
My game plan coming into the race was to give a really hard effort and see where I am. I didn't feel like today was my best race, but I know I did all the work this summer and feel really strong.
How did the race playout and how did the wet weather conditions play a role?
I took the lead pretty early (at about 400 meters in) and tried to hold onto it for the rest of the run. There were mini lakes all over the course, so we had to avoid that at the start and run through mud at several points. Mud and water aside, all my teammates had fun today and raced really well.
This is your first win of the year. How does it feel and how does it set the tone for the rest of the season?
I am very happy to start out with a win. I've put in the most work I've ever done over the summer and am still at a pretty high mileage right now. I expect to improve a lot as the season goes on and am very excited for all of our races this season.
Boys Winner: Garrett Westlake - P.K. Yonge
What was your gameplan coming into a preseason meet like this?
My gameplan was to just go out and run a hard first mile. I was 4:53 at the mile so right where I wanted to be, and the rest of my race I was just focused on increasing my lead.
How did the wet weather conditions play a role?
How did the wet weather conditions play a role?
The mud was awful because of all the storms we have had, but the humidity was the worst part.
