Arroyo Finishes 8th At NACAC Cross Country Championships

It's been a great week for Andres Arroyo. On Tuesday he announced he would be running for the University of Florida. This weekend, the Colonial Senior continued to make his mark on the international scene. Running for his native Puerto Rico, Arroyo headed to Montego Bay, Jamaica for the 2013 NACAC Cross Country Championships. He finished 8th in the junior men's 6k and beat some of the top Americans including Andrew Gardner of Washington, who finished 11th at Foot Locker Nationals, as well as Ryan Roush a current freshman at Michigan State. According to Coach Rene Plasencia, had his star runner run for the United States they would have overtaken Canada for the team title. Canada won with 31 points to the United States' 35 points. Arroyo said prior to the race it is always a great experience to run for Puerto Rico.

"It's a pleasure to run for my country. I've ran for Puerto Rico before and that experience is something that you hold in and get a lot of memories from there. You look back and say wow I went there and I went to all of these special places. It means a lot and I'm looking forward to going over there and giving it my all and giving it 100 percent over there."

NACAC is the exclamation point on a great cross country year for Arroyo who won his second consecutive individual title and helped Colonial to their second team title in two years. He will now focus on the indoor season and the upcoming Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle. We caught up with him to talk about training, Brooks PR, and the upcoming season!
