There might be little debate on this one. Mackenzie Osher is Florida's most improved sprinter in the state. As a junior last year, the North Broward Prep was running times of 13.25 in the 100 meters, 27.16 in the 200 meters, and 1:02.64 in the 400 meters. Now as a senior, she's running 11.94 in the 100 meters, 24.13 in 200 meters, and 54.72 in the 400 meters. After never qualifying for the state meet individually before, Osher is right now appearing to be the state title favorite in the 2A classification for all three sprint races. How did she improve so much and so drastically late as a senior?Osher credits making the decision of giving up competitive cheerleading over the past year and using the time since September dedicated to a regimented and intense training plan with her school and club coaches to make the leaps and bounds gains with her times.Osher has not been afraid to measure up against great competition this season whether it was the Cardinal Gibbons Last Chance Meet with the likes of Aaliyah Butler, Amanda Kinloch, and Pebbles Scott or racing against Shawnti Jackson, Hannah Douglas, and Kyrah Buckle at the Coach Miami Invitational. Being a late bloomer in the sport though has made the college recruiting process that much tougher especially in a Covid year. Suddenly, Osher is on the radar for major D1 college programs when last year at this time when she would have drawn little or no interest. But right now, her focus is on the state meet which will be her first opportunity and experience at that stage. She's welcoming the new expectations of being a state title contender despite being a newbie to the state finals. Athlete Profile: Mackenzie OsherFHSAA 2A Girls Outdoor Rankings
