Mary Ellen Eudaly 4:47, Caroline Lehman 4:48

In a week in which we witnessed two boys from the same high school in Florida break 9 minutes for 3200 meters together in the same race, another unbelievable Florida first was achieved only 48 hours later at the Calvary Christian Invitational on Friday in Clearwater.

Cambridge Christian School juniors Mary Ellen Eudaly and Caroline Lehman both break 4:50 for 1600 meters in the same race with Eudaly winning the race with a US #7 performance of 4:47.77, while Lehman chopped 6 seconds off her previous PR to finish second behind her teammate in a US #8 time of 4:48.30.

The race actually had a third runner break 5 minutes as well, but not from the same team as Canterbury School senior Jessica Edwards broke 5 minutes for the second time in as many weekends with a distance third-place effort of 4:59.14.

Eudaly took the race out with teammate Lehman as well as current 800 meter state leader Edwards right behind her thru the first 400 meters in 71 seconds before rolling thru 800 meters at 2:25 on pace for a time of 4:50 at the halfway point.

As they approached the bell lap, Edwards was now two seconds off the duo coached by Ray Friedman at Cambridge Christian with Eudaly and Lehman splitting 3:39 at 1200 meters with a 73 second third lap.

Both runners let it rip on the final lap with Eudaly closing in 68 seconds and Lehman with equally as great of a kick in 69 seconds to cover her final 400 meters. Edwards slowed down on the final lap and ran out of gas, but still held on for another sub 5 performance in a third-place finish.

Both times were personal bests including a significant drop for the Florida two-mile indoor record holder and adidas Indoor Nationals 5K champion Lehman.

A first and historic duo performance by the pair as well as a rare achievement seen anywhere nationally as well.

Next up on the racing schedule for the distance girls from Cambridge Christian will be their district meet (1A District 9) on April 22nd at Northside Christian in St. Petersburg, which will be LIVE streamed right here on and MileSplit as part of two weeks of FHSAA District Championship events that we will be streaming.
