T&F Team Scores - 2A Girls - Bolles Distance Depth, Well Rounded Squad Makes Them Favorite Todd Grasley Jan 24, 2017

The Bolles girls are back to defend their 2016 2A track and field state championship and the Bulldogs don't lack depth in any event. Caitlin Collier swept the distance events last year and returns for her junior year along side her cross country teammates that finished as the 2A runner-up.  Combine that with several strong sprinters and hurdler and middle school pole vault state record holder Laine Roberts, they will be hard to stop.

American Heritage won the 2A crown in 2016, but lose hurdler McKinly Brown to graduation. The school has one of the top football programs in the country and will hope to get some of those gridiron standouts onto the track. Anthony Schwartz is the defending 100/200m champion and was a major factor in the team's relays. Six other teams are listed higher on our pre-season rankings making the chance to defend very hard. Satellite High School is the top team with an impressive distance corp and the number one ranked pole vaulter in Noah Mumme.


Lakewood Ranch's Falco Stars In Multiple Events For Mustangs Todd Grasley Jan 24, 2017

In 2016, Lakewood Ranch High School won the 4A state championship by six points over South Florida power Southridge. The Mustangs' first ever state championship was in large part due to then junior Sophia Falco who scored 32 points out of the team's total 66. Falco, a Vanderbilt signee, was runner-up in the 100m dash, 5th in the 200, first in the long jump, and runner-up in the triple jump. We caught up with her before the official start of the 2017 track season.

Miami Northwestern junior Thomas Burns is one of the top hurdlers in the state of Florida and nationally as well. The younger brother of former Florida state champion, Miami Hurricane, and Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Artie Burns is ready to win his first title in 2017. Jesus Batista caught up with him this weekend while he was watching the Larry Wooten Invitational at Traz Powell Stadium.

The 2017 Larry Wooten Invitational Saturday at Traz Powell Stadium will mark the first meet of the year for South Florida middle school athletes. The event named after the long-time coach and timer kicks off at 9:00 a.m. with the 4x800m relay followed by the field events at 9:30 a.m. and start of the running events at 12:30 p.m. We have the latest heat sheets and will have results and coverage of all the action.

As the track season approaches, we couldn't help but look back at some of our favorite races from the 2016 season. One of the most exciting was the 4x400 relay finals at the 2016 Flo Golden South that pitted all-star teams from E.O.T.O and Miami Gardens XPress. Brandon Cachon and Tyrese Cooper anchored their respective quartets to sub 3:10 times.

Thompson, formerly of American Heritage, is a three-time middle school state champion in the high jump and her personal best of 5'6" is the fourth best mark of any returner regardless of classification.
