Valerie Lastra made her mark on the FLYRA Middle School State Championship in 2016. Lastra won the 1,500m and set a new meet record with a time of 4:40.56 that still stands today. At the 2018 FHSAA State Finals, she won her first state championship in the 1,600m and was runner-up in the 3,200.
