Florida High School senior and Southern Miss signee Adrianna Mitchell is the reigning 2A state champion in the triple jump and owns the 5th best mark coming into the 2017 season at 39-1.5. All four state winners are back with New Balance Nationals champion Sophia Falco and Miami Northwestern's Taranique Alexander having all cleared the 40 foot plateau. Miami Northwestern senior Taranique Alexander looks to close out her track and field career with a win in the long jump after finishing as the 3A runner-up in 2016. Her personal best of 19'9.25" is the second best mark of any returner behind only Sophia Falco of Lakewood Ranch who cleared 20'5" to win Flo Golden South. One of the best 3,200m races all year had to be the for the 4A state championship. Kayley Delay, Rafaella Gibbons, Bailey Hertenstein all head to head for eight laps. The result three times under 10:45 including Delays state leading 10:30.30, a race one college coach in attendance said was the best he'd seen in a long time. His 9:11.85 at the Arcadia Invitational makes him a top contender to repeat , but he's in a loaded classification that includes five of the top ten. Ft. Myers senior Krissy Gear is one of the top uncommitted distance runners in the state of Florida. Gear is the defending 3A state champion in the 1,600m and comes into 2017 with the third fastest returning time of 4:57.01 from her runner-up performance at the FSU Relays. Freedom's Timothy Doyle had a monster sophomore season. He won his first state title in the 1,600m at a loaded 4A state meet with a time of 4:15.42 and clocked the fastest class of 2018 time in the 800m in a postseason meet running 1:53.64.  He returns along with 40 others who have run sub 4:30 for the four lap event. We look at the top 100 boys in the 1,600m run for the 2017 season.

Florida has 47 girls under 2:20 for 800 meters, but none are in the same class as Bolles junior Caitlin Collier. Collier swept the distance events in 2016 winning the 800, 1,600, and 3,200m outdoors and following it up with a cross country state championship this fall. Her 2:04.89 at USATF Junior Nationals had her on the cusp of making her first ever national team in which she says is probably her favorite event. We take a look at the top 100 girls returners in the half lap event.

Two of the four state champions from 2016 return in 2017. 3A champion Damion Thomas, an LSU signee, and Lorenzo Lingard, the 4A state champion, and one of the top two-sport athletes in the country look for another chance at the top of the podium. Thomas, was undefeated in 2016 including wins at the Carifta Games, state meet, Flo Golden South, and in the  prelims at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships where he ran 13.48s. Track & Field Top 100: Girls 400m Dash - Northeast's Ford Looks To Duplicate 2016 Success Todd Grasley Jan 06, 2017

Different event. Same story. Florida is as deep with talent in the quarter-mile as it is the 100 and 200 meter dash. Northeast sophomore Jan'Taijah Ford won the 3A title in 2016 in 54.01s and followed that up with a PR of 53.77 to win Flo Golden South.  Ford is one of five girls returners to have gone faster than 54 seconds. Take a look at the top 100 performances led by Maiah Walkers 53.27s to win the 2A Region 3 Championship.


Track & Field Top 100: Boys 400m Dash - Can Anyone Catch Tyrese Cooper? Todd Grasley Jan 06, 2017

Tyrese Cooper picked up the trifecta winning the AAU Junior Olympic Games 100,200, and 400m dash in 2016. He also set freshman national records in those respective events making him one of the most successful youngsters in Florida and nationally. His personal best of 45.23 is the fastest returning time and a second faster than former MGX teammate Jamal Walton. Take a look at the 100 best boys quarter milers returning for 2017.

FSU signee Chauncy Smart was the top sprinter in the state of Florida for a long time with his 10.30w mark from the Pepsi Florida Relays. Anthony Schwartz, a junior at American Heritage bettered that time running 10.26w to win the 2A Region 4 Championship. Both are two of the fastest sprinters not just in Florida, but the country.
