Two Dozen Teams Tackle Tarpon Invitational: Naples & Manatee Team Champs



A fun-filled day of track and field embarked Charlotte HS as they hosted the annual Tarpon Invitational. With a strong 24 teams in attendance the day was filled with fast times, exciting victories, and great competition. Jeff Adams and Olivia Ortiz were on-site with a ton of photos and video interviews to capture all the fun and excitement.

On the girls side, the 4x800m relay took place first on the track. Lakewood Ranch took the win in a 9:47.43 over Lely in 10:14.01. 
 
 
Port Charlotte sophomore Michelle Altherly had a day with three first place finishes. Altherly won the high jump in 5-2 and then ran to two personal bests in the 100m and 300m hurdles. 
 
After placing third in the long jump, Naples sophomore and standout Victoria Guerra won the 100m dash in 12.84 and the 200m dash in 25.94. Guerra also helped Naples win the 4x100m relay running the anchor leg to a quick time of 49.09 over a close battle between Lehigh in 49.74.
 
 
In the distance races, Lakewood Ranch senior and University of South Florida commit Natalie Novak won the 800m with a season best of 2:21.77. Evangelical Christian senior and Indiana Wesleyan commit Sarah McBeath ran a season best and won the 1600m in a 5:21.57. In a neck to neck race, Lemon Bay freshman Abigayle Weinfeld had a strong second place finish running a 5:22.08. Community School of Naples freshman, Lindsay Tomaini won the 3200m in a 11:41.44. 
 
Lely sophomore Johann Charelus won the 400m dash in a 1:01.54 over Naples sophomore Elizabeth Gabaud in a 1:01.74. Charelus also helped her team win the 4x400m relay team in a 4:12.28. Very close to breaking their school record, Barron Collier won the 4x200m relay winning in 1:46.31 over Lely in 1:50.49.
 
 
In the field events, Charlotte sophomore Julia Fowlie won the pole vault in a personal best of 11-00 while Dunbar junior Ta’Quoya Jones won the long jump in 17-06.50 with a new season best. Barron Collier senior Kemone Williams won the triple jump in 34-07 as a new personal best. Charlotte junior Jenny D’Alessandro won the discus with a 132-09 while Dunbar senior Johnetta Williams got a new personal best of 41-5 winning the shot put.
 
 
On the boys side, in the 4x800m relay it was a close battle between Charlotte and Sarasota Riverview. In the end, Charlotte came out on top with an 8:21.89 with Sarasota Riverview finishing with a strong second place time running a 8:25.43.
 
 
In the distance races, Naples junior Dieudomm Prudhomm won the 800m with a personal best of 2:01.85. In a close battle to the finish, Cypress Lake senior and Florida Southern commit Bobby Ormsby won and set a new personal best in the 1600m with a 4:31.27 over Immokalee junior Leonel Delacruz with a 4:31.28. Gateway Charter junior Alyx Gonzalez ran to a new season best in the 3200m winning with a 10:47.25.
 
Dunbar junior Raga Fanroy won the 110m hurdles in a 15.34 over Ida Baker junior Mike Shields with a 15.49. Manatee junior Darryl Brookins won the 300m hurdles in 41.09 setting a new personal best.
 
 
Manatee senior Brandon Carnes was victorious in the 100m dash in a 11.10 and the 200m dash in a 22.10. Carnes also helped his team in the 4x100m relay to win with a 42.61. Barron Collier senior Calvin Jean helped his team win the 4x400m relay in a 3:26.67 while also setting a new season best to win the 400m dash in a 49.39. Barron Collier won the 4x200m relay in a 1:33.78 over East Lee County in a 1:34.65.
 
 
In the field events, Lemon Bay senior Joseph Lucia won the high jump in a 6-04 setting a new personal best. Palmetto Ridge senior Cody Chernoff also set a new personal best with a 15-0 in the pole vault. East Lee County junior Kendall Sawyer won the long jump in a 21-6 while Naples senior Jules Dornevil won the triple jump in a 43-2. East Lee County senior Sheldon Fleming won the discus with a 162-00 while also setting a new personal best and coming second in the shot put with a 53-3. Manatee senior Derrick Calloway won the shot put with a 56-02 setting a new personal best.
 
Overall, Naples HS won the team title on the girls side while Manatee HS won the team title on the boys side. Congratulations to everyone who competed and thank you Charlotte HS for putting on another successful meet!
