The FHSAA has officially announced the dates of the 2013 cross country season. As most anticipated, the season will move a week earlier than last year. Though it has not yet been announced, the expectation is that the winter season (soccer, volleyball, wrestling, basketball, etc.) will be moved a week later. And correspondingly, the track season will be moved one or two weeks later whereby the state championship meets would be in mid-May. Part of the goal of this shift is to help avoid overlap and conflict between seasons.
The key dates for cross country for all classifications are as follows:
- First Official Practice: August 5
- First Regular Season Meet: August 31
- District Meets: October 21-26
- Regional Meets: October 28-November 2
- State Championship: November 9
Many of the major regular season meets are already on the calendar and this will not effect them:
- flrunners.com Invitational: September 27-28
- FSU Pre-State Invitational: October 11-12
This change does leave a bit of an opening for season opening meets on August 31st, since few are currently scheduled in this slot. Most county and conference championships will go the week of October 14-19.
