Holy Trinity Puts Best Foot Forward at Wickham Park Jamboree

The regular season finally begins this week. The meet results should soon begin pouring in and the picture will quickly become much clearer.

But in case you didn\'t notice, there was one more preseason meet this past weekend that gives us a look into the crystal ball of things to come this season. The Wickham Park Jamboree in Melbourne gave us another look at some of the teams on the Space Coast and a first look at meet host Holy Trinity. Coach Doug Butler\'s squad did not disappoint. Both the boys and girls teams made extremely impressive showings.

Through four Holy Trinity\'s boys looked extremely sharp and as if they could take anyone on in the state and even make a run at NTN by season\'s end. Kyle Cooke lead the way and won the race in 15:54. He had plenty of company up front though with Kyle Butler, Tyler Truitt, and Bret Butler finishing 2-4-5 with times of 16:13, 16:42 and 16:45, respectively. Holy Trinity will need a little bit of magic to make an appearance on the NTN Southeat rankings though. Coach Butler will need to find a way to make the 4-5 gap disappear--currently the team\'s 5-7 guys are between 18:43 and 18:45. Here\'s to believing Butler is related to Chriss Angel!

The Tigers\' girls team, meanwhile, doesn\'t need any abracadabra. Kayla Hale had an impressive win, running 17:59 all alone up front. Her teammates though had nice opening performances. Melissa Jones (freshman) turned in a time of 19:42, with Natalie Mason, Teresa Ristow, and Savannah McKendree rounding out the top five (19:45, 20:06, 20:21). Holy Trinity\'s Jade Miller and Jamie Beckwith also came in under the elite standard of 21:00 with times of 20:35 and 20:59, making them impressive seven-deep.

The Stern sisters of Satellite (Jessica and Julianna) also competed in the race going 19:01 and 19:12. They were not however joined by their co-conspirators in running excellence, the Shiver sisters (Kaitlin and Ashley) and #5 runner Alisa Kowaleski did not compete in the race. There should be great battles all year long in Brevard County as Satellite and Holy Trinity battle it out for bragging rights as the area\'s best team. There may be more at stake though, as both are also on the radar for slots in the NTN Southest rankings. Jacksonville Episcopal\'s girls are the only Florida team to earn a position in the preseason poll and going in look to be the top team in Florida. But Holy Trinity and Satellite are most likely runners-up to that honor at this point.
