The John A. Ferguson girls are looking good as we head into the 2013 cross country season. After a stellar state runner-up performance in 2011, we fell off a little in 2012 as the girls team struggled in trying to find leadership and mature as a group, but after much success this past track & field season, I can say the girls are very motivated for cross country this year. I attribute much of the bright outlook to the fact that many of my top ten are heading into their senior year and their summer attendance has been very on point compared to last year. They've even got me more motivated for this season!
The varsity squad only lost one girl to graduation, and only one girl appears to not be returning (would be current #7) from last year's team. Luckily we have a very solid group of young sophomores, plus a couple of talented incoming freshmen, who are feeding off the motivation of the varsity to keep the successful tradition alive at Ferguson. I really think that this current JV squad has the potential to be the strongest that we've ever had which hopefully means big things for the years to come.
Our team goals remain almost the same as in year's past. Bring home many of our local championships: county, conference, and district, plus shooting for top two in the most top heavy region in the state as we're head-to-head with St. Thomas and Lourdes. As for the focus for the state championship, this is another year with major podium potential, and we're shooting for that as well. Years like this don't come around too often so I really hope the best for my girls in achieving everything they can this year. I believe in them, and if they respond the way I know they can, they'll most definitely rise to the top. Go Falcons!
