Scouting Report: Bishop Kenny Girls

The Bishop Kenny boys cross country team won the 2A Cross Country Finals in 2012. The girls finished fourth. Three runners in the top five ran a personal best. Overall, the girls knew it wasn't where they wanted to be, but learned the importance of solid communication and taking care of the little things leading into November. Coach Bryan Haffey returns a veteran group lead by seniors Macey Kaczorowski (pictured below), Bridget Reid, Annie Kennedy, Haley O’Neill and Danielle Hartless. After that, sophomores Annie Kaczorowski, Coroline Dobinski and Kilty Barker as well as senior Alessandra Campos will likely be competing to round out the top seven.

The team has been conditioning since May.  wenty eight girls made the trip up to Brevard, North Carolina for camp in July . Haffey calls it a productive week and adds that the girls are much mature than a season ago and have developed a strong sense of confidence in themselves and one another. There aren't a lot of superstars on the roster, but the top five are a solid core who have worked hard to get where they are, and are not just cruising based on their talent alone. Lemon Bay beat them by 11 points last year to finish third and this year the two teams could battle it out for a podium spot. Bolles is primed to defend their state championship, but the preseason rankings have BK only 26 points behind Lemon Bay. If their number five runner can close the gap, it could be a great battle.

Coach Haffey Says...

"This is perhaps the most no-nonsense group I’ve worked with. Watching the guys team take home another state title has certainly left them with a strong desire to follow suit. At Bishop Kenny, the goal is always to make the podium at the state meet.  That’s the tradition.  We’re looking forward to running at the FLRunners Invitational again after several years away from it. Otherwise, Katie Caples and Pre-State are circled on our calendars for the regular season. "
