It was a big deal for the Brevard Heat ladies, seeking to justify their #5 1A ranking. Emily Chapman domianted from early on and never looked back. She crossed the line in 19:25, 33 seconds better than teammate Sarah Deibner. That gave Heat a quick three points, but not so fast because the Rockledge ladies came roaring back! Mackenzie Baysinger and Katarina Jernberg took the next two spots less than a second apart (20:40, 20:41) to put the home team back into contention.
Brevard Heat though sealed the deal by putting four in the top 15 and five in the top 30 to finish with 55 points and a 21:34 team average, which was 37 better than Rockledge's 92. Melbourne Central Catholic was third with 100 points.
On the boys side, it was pretty much all Rockledge! The Raiders put a whopping eight runners in the top 20 positions--their seventh runner was at 18:12. With less than a minute for their 1-5 split and just 36 points it was just their day.
Christian Lake led off for the home team with a 17:10 win over Sam Shaffer of Viera (17:18). Shaffer's Viera took second with 63 points. Astronaut, helped by a strong 3-4 finish by Wesley Garrett and Drew Denson, were third with 92 points.
Viera's boys JV team put five in the top ten for the 23-37 win over Rockledge. And Jensen Beach girls JV was led by a smiling win by Mary Powers of 25:32. They take it 41-55 over Cocoa Beach.
