2014 FACA Track & Field Clinic: News & Notes

Dozens of coaches descended on Daytona Beach for the 2014 FACA Track & Field Clinic. The events and festivities kicked off Thursday afternoon with an FHSAA update by Director of Athletics Shanell Young. Young discussed the plan for the 2014 state meet in Jacksonville. The University of North Florida basically wanted to consolidate the event into one weekend in order to reduce costs. So the meet will be held on May 2,2014 and May 3, 2014 with the 1A/2A championship Friday and 3A/4A on Saturday. There will be no change in the qualifying and the district and regional competitions will still have a stagger. The 1A/2A competitors will have a one week break.

As for the meet times the 4x8's and field events will begin at 9 a.m. Running prelims will start at 11:20 with the finals slated to take place at 4:00. Young thinks the new format will work well.

"It gives everyone a chance to experience track and field. 1A/2A can come back and watch 3A/4A and vice versa."

Following a short break out it was time for one of my favorite parts of the clinic, the State Championship Coaches Panel. Below, I broke down the session into three videos for you to watch.

Also, later in the night were the Coach of the Year Awards Presentation. Congratulations to all coaches who received an award for their hard work and accomplishments.

Of course, as is every year, there were a ton of speakers and great presentations. Deland coach Jim Lowenstein filmed some of those and will post next week so you don't miss a thing! Thanks to FACA Chairman Dave Halliday, Holly Thompson of MF Athletic, and the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront for putting on such a great event!
