Several Top Florida HS Athletes Open Track Season @ Florida Indoors

Daisey Glasser, Hailey Neal, Joe Franklin, Teona Rodgers, Shataya Hendricks, and Christal Washington has stellar performances to open the 2007 track season. They competed unattached at the Florida Intercollegiate Indoor Championship meet at the University of Florida.

Glasser, who is a two-time Florida pole vault champion and senior at Episcopal, finished fourth out of 24 collegiate and open athletes. She vaulted to 12-5.5, not far off from her 12-6.75 PR from last year.

In the mile race, Hailey Neal turned in an excellent opening showing. Her time of 5:05.43 is likely a sign of great things to come this spring. She should definitely be a contender for the state crown this year and possibly beyond.

For the boys, Joseph Franklin is favored to be the standout in the boys category for the 1600 and 800 meter races this spring. Last year Joe turned in a best 1600 time of 4:16.95 and in incredible showing of 1:50.92 in the 800 at Nike Outdoors (in the slow heat!). We'll be looking for him to drop the hammer some more this spring! He finished third today in Gainesville with a time of 4:24.84 to open 2007.

In the sprints, seniors Teona Rodgers and Shataya Hendricks battled it out in the 200 meter dash and also had strong doubles. Teona finished 5th to Shataya's 8th with times of 25.05 and 25.29. Rodgers took third place overall in the 55H with a time of 7.89, while Hendricks competed in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.13.

Both of these two girls will be among the very best in the state at 100 and 200 meters, and Teona will be a strong threat for the title at either 100H or 300H.

After an imrpessive finished at Little Everglades during cross country, Christal Washington made her track debut at her specialty: 800 meters. The South Broward junior finished with a nice debut of 2:17.72.
