For former Oviedo standout Jenny Barringer second place was bittersweet. Barringer thought she was making her move on the last lap, but realized when the clock said 8:36 and she saw Sally Kipyego keep going, that she wasn't indeed done. The star distance runner had miscounted, but rather than stop and throw in the towel, she dug deep, ran the rest of the race, and finished in a new personal best of 9:26.39, only three seconds off the American Record of 9:23.28.
