When Alvin Bryant lined up for the start of the 100 meters at the Lake Brantley Invitational he had no idea how the race would play out. Nor did he know the surprise that was waiting for him shortly thereafter. The Dr. Phillips sophomore shot out of the blocks and crossed the line second with a new personal best of 10.99. Bryant's sister, PFC Toni A. Bryant came and surprised her little brother in an emotional reunion. A 2012 graduate of Boone High School, she left for the Army the following December. The last time she was able to see her brother was early in June 2013. This past Saturday PFC Bryant came homefor the weekend before going back to South Korea where she is stationed at Camp Humphries. Their mom, Dee Carter explains how the whole ordeal went down.
"It came up because she was gone all last year and didn’t get to see any of his races & his state win (4x4). We’ve always been a supportive family. We ALL go to each kids events to cheer them on. With Toni not being there, Alvin would always say ‘I wish my sister could see me’.
As you can see in the video her brother was shocked at this emotional homecoming. His mom says he was on top of the world and still is.
"He and his sister are very close and he was truly surprised and elated to finally have his sister home, if even just for a few days.
Toni Bryant returned to South Korea on Monday.
