FACA Girls Rankings #3

2A Team Rankings

Rankings By: Dan Dearing (Bolles)- dan_dearing@hotmail.com

2A rankings were submitted before the flrunners.com meet.

1. Bishop Kenny- Still the best until somebody beats them. It doesn't look like anyone will be beating them anytime soon in 2A. Hall is back on track with a strong showing at Great American followed closely by teammate Harrell. With those two as the three and four behind Wellman and Marshall, it doesn't matter if they have a #5 (which they do).
2. Pope John Paul- Unlike Clay High from last year, if this team goes 1-2 at state, they could walk away with the title. Schappert needs to get healthy, but there is plenty of time for that. Nice performances out of Robinson (20:50) and Sclafani (20:57) at Spanish River. They are good enough to win the title in most classifications, we'll have to see about 2A.
3. Pensacola Catholic- Not much change here. Haven't seen Anna Greskovich or Lambert race since last rankings, but the two freshman, Caitlen Greskovich and Sara Faessell had a decent showing at Pine Forest.
4. Academy of Holy Names- I apologize for leaving them off my last rankings. My problem with this team is every year they have ten girls run well and we never see the best five in a race together. Maybe this year will be different. Petrick and Fletcher are legitimate contenders for the top ten. Where is Kelly Kazbour this year? A unch of girls in the 22's.
5. Gulliver- Mera has beat Gil by one second at each of the last two meets. Sounds to me like they are running together and there could be something left. Good coaching here – look for them to compete when it matters.
6. Bolles- Still hasn't shown that the best five will ever run a race together. Marees looking strong. Traylor finally starting to run again. Team certainly could be better if the youngsters start to develop.
7. Lecanto-
Nice, solid group of runners. Need the three through five runners to improve as a group to score high at state, but certainly a top ten program. Freshman Cooke is just getting faster by the week.
8. Lincoln Park- Good group of four. Number four girl has already run 21:18. If they can develop a #5, then this team could be a lot higher than eighth.
9. Rockledge- #5 girl at 22:31 at a traditionally fast course at Deland. Good depth as well. This team may be under-ranked here, but I need to see them compete against the rest of the field to know for sure.
10. Bishop Moore- Returning four girls from last years state team – three of them under 21:17. Had four girls under 22:00 at the Lake Mary Classic. Will be hurt by not having a frontrunner but could be a dangerous pack if a strong number five develops.

2A Individuals

1. Anna Greskovich (Pensacola Catholic)- She hasn't raced sine the last rankings (that I've seen). Then I said "What a great start to the season.19:08 in debut backed up by a 19:06 in winning the FSU meet narrowly over 2A rival, Wellman. She showed that she can run with the best and win. That's what it takes to be #1. She also has team hardware to run for."
2. Jacqueline Areson (Pope John Paul)- 19:20 at Spanish River. Having to lead a young team right now with Schappert a little banged up. Make no mistake though, this girl is a stud.
3. Mallory Wellman (Bishop Kenny- She moves up out of default, because of Schappert being hurt. A solid performance (19:44) at Great American on a tough course. She's running for team glory as well. Incredible group of training partners is helpful.
4. Nicole Schappert (Pope John Paul)-She may be #2 on her team (for now), but she's still the defending state champ in the 1600 and 3200. She should be fine by the time the races really start to matter.
5. Heather Marees (Bolles)- second at last years state meet. Opened up with 19:29 at BK meet and looked strong in the race against her BK rivals. She hasn't run a competitive race in a couple of weeks, so she could be well rested for FLRunners
6. Sasha Mera (Gulliver)- Ran with Gil the last two meets. This freshman is the real deal and makes a great 1-2 punch with her eighth grade teammate. 19:39 at Spanish River and 20:17 at Martin County
7. Amy Beth Gallogy (Bolles)- She doesn't run much, but she's good. You are going to have to trust me on this one.
8. Jillian Gill (Gulliver)– Having Mera to train with should help the eighth grader to develop, if she needs any help. She could easily finish in the top five at state.
9. Laura Woznicki (Kathleen) – Its hard to say where Laura should be ranked right now, as we still haven't seen her against many of her 2A foes yet. She ran 20:01 at the Lake Region Invitational in winning the race. I'll admit that I may be way off here. She may be a lot better than this, but we need to wait and see.
10. Kelly Marshall (Bishop Kenny) – I still believe any of the three (maybe four now) BK girls could be the #1 on any given day. But so far it has been Wellman and then Marshall. She ran a solid 20:21 at Great American. Remember, she ran 19:26 at state last year so look for great things as she returns to that course at FLRunners.
