Salute To Seniors: Robert McKinney - St. Augustine High School

The 2013-2014 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.

What was your most memorable race/moment?

My most memorable moment was after regionals when we had heard that we qualified for states.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

The runners at Creekside High School always gave us a challenge.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment was in cross country coming 5th in the state and for track having the 4x8 school record.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would start cross country my freshmen year instead of my sophomore year.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The most difficult obstacles were my mental strength, knowing my potential, and trying my best to achieve the times my coach, and teammates knew I could run.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my teammates and coach. A.K.A my family.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

I would say don’t give up. Distance runners are made not born. The best runners put the most times in. The worst that can happen from doing your best is that you get better and who doesn’t enjoy that?

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

He’s taught the entire team and me that running is like life in so many ways. What you put in is what you get out. Hard work will always pay off no matter what.

What are your college plans?

I will be running cross country for Jacksonville University next year and majoring in Economics.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to thank God, my family, teammates, my coach, and friends that have supported me all four years.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Never give up on anything, have confidence, and go for it.
