May 20, 2014 has been proclaimed as Gabe Moore Day in Walton County. The Freeport senior advanced to the 1A State Finals in four events and scored 26 of the team's 29 points. Moore won individual gold in the long jump was second in the 110 hurdles, third in the pole vault, and seventh in the discus. He was presented with the news of "his day" at a school board meeting. Last September, he received the key to the city of the Freeport and September 13th was made Gabe Moore Day in town for a combination of academic achievements and competing in the World Youth Championships in Ukraine. He says he is humbled to see this much support.
"It means a lot to have the county's support and town's support. I know that all of my hard work and dedication is appreciated. It means so much to me."
In addition to his state championship, Moore won the New Balance Indoor Nationals pentathlon title in March. He plans on attending the University of Arkansas in the fall where he will participate in the decathlon at the college level. How would he sum up his high school career? One word. Amazing.
"That's how I would describe it. I've been blessed with great opportunities and fortunately I've been able to take advantage of them. I've had a great support system my whole high school career and it feels great to end my career with awesome recognition and accomplishments."
