Cruz's 17:56.53 is the top time in Florida4, US#44, and one of the top 50 fastest ever in our database. The St. Thomas Aquinas junior beat runner-up Tsion Yared by 12 seconds to set a new personal best and break 18 minutes for the first time in her career. The 4A Cross Country Finals should be very competitive in November, but the defending state champion made a statement with this win, that she plans on staying on top.

Diaz, a senior at Miami Sunset picked up his second win of the season at the UF Mt. Dew Invitational in the third fastest time of his career. Unlike his South Florida counterpart Cruz, the race came down to the wire. Steven Cross of Merritt Island who was a perfect three for three heading into the meet, pushed Diaz the whole race, but fell short in te he final meters, by tenths of a second. The Sunset senior crossed the line in a state leading and US#30 time of 15:21.12.
