Emilie Amaro of Cypress Bay broke out a big new PR in the unseeded heat of the Girls 2 Mile race last night in Greensboro. Emilie ran a very agressive race, leading and pushing the pace for much of the race. She fell back slightly toward the end, but with an impressive second wind on the last lap battled back into contention passing two girls and fighting Virginian Sarrah Jadiji for the finish tape. Hadiji's kick was too strong, but Amaro none the less looked very impressive. She finished in second place with a new PR of 10:32.39.
Kayla Hale also competed in that heat. She finished ten seconds behind Amaro with a respectable time of 10:41.31, but was never about to mount much of a threat for the lead.
Nike Indoor National champion Ashley Brasovan competed later in the evening in the Seeded division of the 2 Mile. Brasovan looked strong and stayed near the leaders for the entire race, leading for the first half as is her normal style to lead from the gun. She held on and finished in 4th place with a time of 10:27.09. Ashley Higginson of New Jersey won that race in 10:17.44.
The girls from Orlando Oak Ridge competed in the 3rd of 4 heats (slowest to fastest) in the 4x200. Odeika Bent took it home for the Pioneers and they won their heat easily with a time of 1:39.07. Overall that placed them second, beating out all but one of the teams' times from the fast heat. The winning time was Therrell, Georgia with a time of 1:38.37. Now we are left to wonder if the girls in the green and yellow could have been able to match up with Therrell and win if they had been in the fast heat. Congratulations to Coach Stamper, Bent, Amber Outing, Anjoure Teele, and Victoria Watson!
