Congratulations to Joseph "Tiago" Socarras of Belen. He was incredible at the Arcadia Invitational in CA on Saturday, running a new Florida High School State Record of 1:47.66 in the 800m. Socarras took the lead from the gun, splitting 55.01 on the first 400 and a fantastic negative split 52.66 on his second 400. He was pulling away from the field with 200 to go and, coming off of the curve, quickly raised and lowered his arms in celebration as he made the US #1 look easy. His 1:47.66 is a new Florida High School State record. The old record was held by Andres Arroyo of Colonial, who ran a 1:47.79 at the Florida Relays in 2013. Socarras also set a new Arcadia Invitational record, breaking the 1:47.96 run in 1995 by Michael Granville of Bell Gardens, CA. The National Scholastic record is 1:46.45 set in 1996 by Michael Granville of Bell Gardens at the CIF State Track and Field Championships.
