Team Rankings:

Commentary: Hello Class 1A Girls Teams! I am filling in for Kyle Butler this week as he prepares this week for the Sunshine State College Championships. While Kyle has a vast knowledge of girls team throughout the State, here is my best efforts....Holy Trinity appears to have a clear path towards their second straight girls cross country title. At the time of this poll, they are the fifth ranked team in Florida (all classifications) and are 1 minute faster per runner than the second fastest Class 1A Team with their 19:05 team average. Where it gets interesting is at the #2 spots where three teams appear poised to battle for the podium. Perenial powerhouse Oak Hall has been uncharacteristically up and down this season but boast enough talent and experience to prevail once again and claim the runner-up trophy. Westminster Christian School shows a very similar team with two strong runners up front and a 2:00 spread through their top five. Community School of Naples has been stealthly progressing and have had strong team performances these past few weeks and look poised to make a run towards the top. After that a young Maclay School and an experienced First Academy team look to battle for 5 with Evangelical School with 1A top runner Sarah Candiano. For the remaining top 10 teams, they could come from anywhere with a good 5-7 teams capable of stepping up, running well, and finishing among the elite 10 teams. All four Regions look to field competitive contests with outstanding competition for the coveted 6 spots. Good luck to all the teams and congratulations on an outstanding 2014 season!

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Holy Trinity, Region 3 (1) 7th Place finish in the Elite Race at FSU Pre-State, not running their best but still went 19:34 team average. Rebounded at the Holy Trinity Fall Classic on familiar turf with a sizzling 19:05 team average. Was the most dominant team in Class 1A (and 5th in all classifications) this season and could squeeze all 7 in the top 20 at the State Meet.
2. Westminster Christian School, Region 4 (4) 20th Place finish in the Elite Race at FSU Pre-State while missing their 5th runner. Scored a perfect 15 points in winning District 16 at Greynolds Park with a 20:40 team average and 1:36 top 5 split. Looking to improve upon last years 8th place State finish.
3. Oak Hall, Region 2 (2) After a 3rd place showing at FLrunners ROC, the Eagles finished a dissapointing 24th without their #2 at Pre-State. They bounced back to easily win District 5 with a 21:03 average without their #4. Questions arise but hope abounds that this talented team comes together and returns to the podium at State.
4. Community School of Naples, Region 3 (3) Team looks to be rounding into top form with a strong showing at the Lely Invitational and a win at the District 11 Championship with a 20:11 team average. Program has a tradition of running well at State and look to improve upon their 6th place finish from 2013.
5. Maclay School, Region 1 (5) The Mauraders are young and rich in talent. With the top 6 ranging from 6-10 grades they posted an impressive 4th place finish in the Select Girls Race at Pre-State with a 20:48 team average. Easy win at District 3 with a perfect 15 score and 21:26 team average.
6. First Academy, Region 2 (6) Another team that has struggled to put their full team together. But when they do, the talent is there to accomplish big things evidenced by their perfect 15 point score and 20:44 team average at the District 7 Championships. Seeking to build on their 5th place State Finish.
7. Evangelical Christian School, Region 3 (12) Another program that has a history of finishing strong. Last years team came on well to finish 7th at the State Meet and this team seems to following suit with a strong 2nd place showing at the District 11 Meet with a 20:27 team average.
8. Shorecrest Prep, Region 3 (7) Rock solid program that consistently runs their best in the biggest meets. Teams has a wide variety of PR's from various meets, but if they can put it all together, they are a potential top 7-10 team with a 21:00 team average. Winner of District 10 with 52 points.
9. Calvary Christian School, Region 3 (11) Won District 9 with a 21:16 team average.
10. Kings Academy, Region 4 (NR) Won District 13 with a 21:36 team average.

2A Girls Rankings
By: Mike Becker, Ransom Everglades, mbecker@ransomeverglades.org

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Maybe I'm fooling myself, but I am not changing the top 8… Academy of Holy Names moves up, West Shore moves in near 10. I am not separating into regions because to be honest, the best teams are not spread out evently. I will go out on a limb and predict that the following teams do make state... Region 4 craziest and a good team will get left home...The crystal ball says Pine Crest,  Ransom, Carrolton, St Brendans,Titusville are in with a dog fight for the last spot.....West Shore and Lincoln Park are hot.....Rockledge and Gibbons have histories of doing it when it counted.  Gut feeeling last spot goes to West Shore....Region 1 Bolles, West Florida tech, Episcopal, Bishop Snyder, Bishop Kenny and one spot up for grabs...Region 2 lake Highland Prep, Trinity Prep, Bishop Moore,Eastside are in...Crytsal river next... then its wild... no idea.  Finally, region 3 looks like  Lemon Bay, Berkeley. Holy Names and Immokalle ( with Labelle, Mckeel and  fighting out for last spot.)

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Bolles (1) The only question this week is which 7 runners Bolles chooses to uunleash

6. Carrollton (6) Its been a long year, but these guys know how to compete

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Ok, our four region winners… drum roll please… Region 1  off as Wilson at even odds ( with Lacey close)… Region 4 has  Yared at 3:2 (with Montgomery, Archer, Pujals and Ruan trying to find ways to upset her at state)….  Region 2 says  Amelia Schmitt form Nature Coast or Leigha Torino ( too close to call) ….with Mcnally chasing.. finally in region 3... this is hardest to call, but ill go with Haley a Lemon Bay runner cause there are three of em.  Not looking too far ahead, but at state it still looks like Yared or Wilson ( unless Montgomery is holding  her cards tight).... with Archer, Lucey, Ruan and Pujals capable of an upset.  Special region 4 note: three girls under 19:00 in 80 degree weather at Larry and Penny has never been done before at any level by 3 local runners. It wouldnt make me jump out of my pants if one of those three gives Yared a race.

Athlete Name – Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:
1. Yared Tsion- Pine Crest (1) Will have competition this week
2. Mackenzie Wilson - Bolles (2) Will be hard to beat
3. Julia Montgomery - Pine Crest  (3) I know, she doesn't belong 3… but this is a two time defending state champion.  I refuse to drop her lower and look dumb later
4. Morgan Lucey - Episcopal  (4) A true contender
5. Lauren Archer- Ransom Everglades (5) Her time at larry and Penny was 4 th fastest ever.. With her speed, … if she stays close all above her are vulnerable
6. Bea Ruan - Ransom Everglades (7) 18:52 at larry and Penny is worth 18:30 elsewhere
7. Ally Hajda- Bolles (8) steady … and
8. Rachel Shapiro - Bolles  (9) unsepararble….
9. Allyssa Pujols- Gulliver (6) Under 19;00 last week …… may be better than #9
10. Leigha Torino - North Marion (10) If I've under ranked anyone it might be Leigha
11. Skye Zeller- Space Coast  (11) Fast fast trimes… but are courses short?
12. Mahdere Yared- Pine Crest (13) Pine Crest #3 if we are comparing to Bolles, meet is even thru 3
13. Maddie Fulmer - South Walton (18)
14. Hannah Fleming- Titusville (12)

3A Girls Rankings
By: John Stevenson, Sarasota HS, john.stevenson@sarasotacountyschools.net

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Creekside is in the driving seat for top 3A girls team. Not much has changed in overall ranking since there wasn't many upsets in districts. State podium looks like it could come down to Creekside, Ft. Myers, Sarasota, and Ocala Vanguard. It will come down to who will be the sharpest team and who wants it more.

Region 1 Commentary: Creekside is the clear favorite for Region 1 title. Region 1 is pretty competitive with many quality teams that could not make top 6 to qualify for States. Big surprise in District 2 with Fort Walton taking district title over Niceville. District 4 produced some fast times compared to other districts but all the districts in Region 1 ran on Saturday with cooler conditions. I think Creekside, Chiles, FWB, and Niceville are locks for state spot. Last two spots will come down to the better back end.
Team Name (State) (Prev.)  District Average; Comments:
1. Creekside (1) (1) 19:01; District 4 Champs. 4 girls under 19.
2. Chiles (5) (7) 20:08; Pretty decisive District win
3. Fort Walton Beach (6) (12) 20:46; An up and down season but could be a great start to the state series with district 2 title
4. Niceville (7) (5) 21:01; District 2 runner-up with 10 points behind FWB
5. Columbia (12) (9) 20:39; District 3 runner-up. The last couple spots to qualify will come down to who has the better back end on Saturday.
6. Nease (14) (NR) 20:07; Runner-up at district 4. It will be a battle for last spot
7. Choctawhatchee (NR) (15) 21:15; 3rd place in district 2. Will be close for final spot to Tally
8. St. Augustine (NR) (NR) 20:18; 3rd at District 4. Need 4 or 5 to step up at regionals to qualify

Region 2 Commentary: No one in Region 2 is running as well as Ocala Vanguard. Easy pick for Region 2 title. Seabreeze should earn regional runner-up trophy. Land O Lakes could surprise Seabreeze but their district was at the track race of McKethan Park.
Team Name (State) (Prev.)  District Average; Comments:
1. Ocala Vanguard (4) (4) 19:37; Ran away with district 5 title over Seabreeze
2. Seabreeze (9) (6) 21:08; Runner-up in District 5. Missing #2 runner
3 Matanzas (NR) (NR) 21:34; 3rd in District 5
4. Land O Lakes (NR) (NR) 21:07; District 7 Champion @ fast McKethan Park
5. Mainland (NR) (NR) 21:32; 4th team in district 5, but could be last team getting to the big dance.
6. Lake Nona (NR) (NR) 21:43; District 6 Champion
7. Mitchell (NR) (NR) 21:30; District 7 Runner-up
8. Lake Region (NR) (NR) 21:41; District 8 Champion. Will be close with a group of other teams to make it to states.

Region 3 Commentary: Region 3 title will come down to Ft. Myers and Sarasota. Ft. Myers took it to Sarasota at Pre-State and they will be running in the backyard at Estero Community Park. The battle for last spot will be interesting between King, Lely, and Palmetto Ridge.
Team Name (State) (Prev.)  District Average; Comments:
1. Ft. Myers (2) (2) 20:13; Destroyed the field by 42 points at District 11
2. Sarasota (3) (3) 19:33; Dominated District 10 with 17 points
3 Lakewood Ranch (10) (13) 20:30; District 10 runner-up. Good spread
4. Chamberlain (11) (8) 22:21; District 9 Champ @ slow Dover Trails
5. Estero (12) (10) 21:30; District 11 runner-up
6. Lely (15) (NR) 21:14; District 12 Champ by 4 points
7. Palmetto Ridge (NR) (NR) 21:15; Just barely the runner-up at district 12.
8. King (NR) (11) 22:19; District 9 runner-up. Missing #1 runner at districts

Region 4 Commentary: The weakest region in 3A. Merrit Island will dominate and walk away with title
Team Name (State) (Prev.)  District Average; Comments:
1. Merritt Island (8) (14) 19:52; Dominated District 13. Possible top 5 state team
2. Miami Northwestern (NR) (NR) 22:03; District 16 Champion
3 South Fork (NR) (NR) 22:12; District 14 Champion
4. Doral Academy  (NR) (NR) 22:48; 3rd in District 16
5. Mater Academy Charter (NR) (NR) 22:28; Runner-up to Northwestern
6. Suncoast (NR) (NR) 23:01; Runner-up to South Fork
7. Pembroke Pines (NR) (NR) 23:14; District 15 Champion. Will need to battle with Suncoast for final spot
8. Archbishop McCarthy (NR) (NR) 23:39; Just missed district 15 championship by 4 points to Pembroke

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: 3A girls is becoming one of the races to watch at States with so many girls running well and battles back and forth. Wollrath is still #1 just because she keeps winning. Many others will be vying the top stop on podium including Molloy, Grebe, Gear, Mulford, Taylor, and now Aponte who ran lights out at Districts. It's hard to determine overall ranking based on district time since there were so many different courses and different temperatures. Big drops in times in District 4 so I may get some flack about not including some of the ladies...we will see this weekend at Regionals.

4A Girls Rankings
By: Ryan Raposo, John A. Ferguson HS, ryanraposo@gmail.com
Commentary: Just as every year, I broke down each Region based on District Results and have teams listed with their Regional and State Rankings. There were many discrepancies in the different district courses and so I did my best to adjust. Remember that only six teams qualify from each Region, so good luck this week everyone!

Team Rankings by Region:
Region 1 Commentary: It's another typical year for 4AR1, your "Region of Death" has a good 3-4 teams that could possibly make top 15 at state if they were able to get out, although only six will make it to Tallahassee next week, and all of them should be top ten. Most of these Districts ran faster than the rest of the state, so a 15s addition was put in place except for District 1 (whose results are shaky).
Rank Team, Region State Rank (Prev.)  Time, Comments:
1. Winter Park, 1 1. (1) 18:51 Team Avg, 1st in District 4 (+15s)
2. Dr. Phillips, 1 3. (6) 19:43 Team Avg, 2nd in District 4 (+15s)
3. Lake Mary, 1 4. (4) 19:50 Team Avg, 2nd in District 2 (+15s)
4. Winter Springs, 1 6. (10) 20:06 Team Avg, 1st in District 2  (+15s)
5. Timber Creek, 1 7. (3) 20:13 Team Avg, 3rd in District 4 (+15s)
6. West Orange, 1 10. (T-12) 20:17 Team Avg, 1st in District 3 (+15s)

13. Boone, 1 x (NR) 21:13 Team Avg, 4th in District 4 (+15s)
14. Lyman, 1 x (NR) 21:26 Team Avg, 4th in District 2 (+15s)
15. Ocala Forest, 1 x (NR) 22:31 Team Avg, 3rd in District 3 (+15s)

Region 2 Commentary: Arguably the second best Region in the State, Region 2 looks to possibly have a couple of teams battling for the final spot to get out. Overall North Port should run away with the win and they're continuing to look like a top five team. They're followed by Jenkins and Riverview, both who could possibly be top ten State teams if they can put it all together when it matters the most next week.
Rank Team, Region State Rank (Prev.) Time, Comments:
1. North Port, 2 5. (5) 20:22 Team Avg, 1st in District 8 (10s spread!)

Region 3 Commentary: And here we start to see the noticeable separation between the north and the south of the state. Region 3  is probably the weakest Region in the State, only because Region 4 has a few possible top ten teams. Right now Region 2 only looks two put two teams in the top 15, and both of those schools, Vero Beach and Martin County, should be duking it out for the Region win this week.

Region 4 Commentary: The Region with the largest spread by far is Region 4. Although boasting three of the top four, and five of the top seven teams last year at State, this year isn't quite as cozy. Arguably the second best Region, St. Thomas looks to easily secure another podium position this year at State followed by traditional top ten teams in Lourdes and Ferguson who are looking to finish top ten once again. 30s reductions put in place for Larry & Penny Thompson Park.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: There was a little bit of shuffling in the top tier, primarily because a couple of girls were coming off of uncharacteristic performances at FSU and whatnot, but for the most part there were not many surprises with this list. A couple of newbies, and a couple of veterans who jogged their Districts, but with Region meets this week, I would expect everyone to be bringing their A game in an effort to strongly advance to the State Championship.

1A Boys Rankings

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Holy Trinity goes wire to wire as Top team in Class 1A. Outstanding team of purpose driven athletes striving to maintain their rich tradition of success. The bigger battle begins at the number 2 spot as The Geneva School, Shorecrest Prep, and Indian Rocks Christian just tightened up the chase with perenial powerhouse Maclay School. The Mauraders may still have the inside tract with their experience and "mystique" of running big on race day at the State Meet, but the others are not going to make it easy and want it just as badly. The Geneva School and Shorecrest seem to have made the biggeset jumps while IRC continues to be strong and consistent.  Could be really exciting to see who steps up on November 15 and grabs that podium spot. After the Top 5, it really opens up for a number of schools who share similar lack of depth to compete at the top level. Any one of 10 possible teams could come out of Regional prepared to make a huge splash on the Apalachee Regional Park course. Whose #4 and #5 are going to shock their coaches and teammates and elevate their team with a huge performance. It is going to happen! It is what makes race day and Cross Country special and so eagerly anticipted. Good luck to all the teams this weekend at your respective Region Meets. Looks like some great competition setting up with Region 3 being the strongest and toughest to get to the State Meet.

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Holy Trinity Academy, Region 3 (1) Won the Holy Trinity Fall Classic with a 16:14 team average and then "held back" with a 16:32 team average in winning District 12 with a perfect 15 point score. This team has the potential to go sub 16 as a team avearge this season! They are that good!
2. The Geneva School, Region 2 (3) Moves into the #2 spot after two impressive performances at the West Orange Invitational (fast course) and the District 6 Championship over the slow Embry Riddle Course as they tightened up their top 5 spread to saeason best 1:28 and showed some added depth.
3. Maclay School, Region 1 (2) Won District 3 with 19 points and an 18:23 / 1:19 team average and spread. These Marauders always seem to begin gearing up for a big finish about now and we expect nothing less from them this season with State once again in their backyard.
4. Shorecrest Prep, Region 3 (5) Took some big steps forward over the past few weeks as once again they seem to be gearing towards the perfect peak. Won District 10 easily with 37 points and a season best 17:47 team average.
5. Indian Rocks Christian, Region 3 (4) Easy District 9 winners with 23 points and a 17:45 team average. Solid team with all the ingredients to jump to top 3 with a solid performance. Has depth and a tight top 5.
6. Circle Chrisian School, Region 2 (6) Runner Up Finish at District 6 on slow Embry Riddle Course with 18:50 team average. Solid Top 4 that all needs to run well and a 5th man to step up.
7. Father Lopez, Region 2 (11) Better than they appear on paper. Has not run a fast course since early September. Tight pack almost snatched the runner-up spot at District from Circle finishing 3rd with a 19:03 team average. If they move up slightly together they can be at the top of this group.
8. P.K. Yonge, Region 2 (7) Won District 5 Championship with 39 points and 18:18 Team Average. Solid Top 3 that needs to run well and a 4th & 5th man to step up a bit more.
9. Oak Hall, Region 2 (16) Runner up at District 5 Championship with 40 points and 18:24 team average. Solid up front with a strong #1 and tight in the middle but needs a 5th man to step up.
10. Miami Country Day, Region 4 (14) Coming on strong with nice District 16 Championship win and a 18:16 team average and 1:15 top 5 spread. Could be peaking at the right time.

  Region Picks:
Region 1 The Maclay School dominates this Region with experience and depth. Pensacola looks to legitimize their State run by taking the runner-up. St. John's is improving fast and looks to make a nice run at 2 following a strong District effort. Jay High School looks good on paper for 4th but has not competed in many comparable races. Harvest Community has recently dropped but look to battle Providence and Blountstown for the final two tickets to the State Championship. Best Geuss Picks for the Region include: (1) The Maclay School; (2) Pensacola Christian Academy; (3) St. John's Country Day; (4) Jay High School; (5) Harvest Community School; (6 - tie) Providence; (6 - tie) Blountstown.
Region 2 Geneva is too strong and too deep. Could win with any of their top five once again. Any one of four could take second between Circle Christian, Father Lopez, P.K. Yonge or Oak Hall bringing home the runner-up trophy. Could be battle for the 6th spot as well with First Academy, Lakend Christian, Windermere Prep and New Dimensions looking to punch their ticket to Tallahassee. Best Geuss Picks would be: (1) The Geneva School; (2) Circle Christian School; (3) Father Lopez; (4) P.K. Yonge; (5) Oak Hall; (6) First Academy (Still with a good shot) Lakeland Christian; Windermere Prep; New Dimension.
  Region 3 Holy Trinity is too good even in the toughest Region and takes the Championship easily. Nice battle for second with a rising Shorecrest and a consistent Indian Rocks. Melbourne Central Catholic with their super tight pack takes 4th followed by an improving Cardinal Mooney team. Huge battle for 6th that is tight man for man with Community School, Seffner, and St. Stepens. Whoever gets their 5th in first probably takes the final spot.  Best Geuss Picks are: (1) Holy Trinity Academy; (2) Shorecrest Prep; (3) Indian Rocks; (4) Melbourne Central Catholic; (5th) Cardinal Mooney; (6th-Tie) Community School of Naples, Seffner Christian Academy; St. Stephens Episcopal;
Region 4 Westminister Academy and Miami Country Day School appear to be a dead heat with the nod going to Westminster on home course advantage. Westminster Christian and John Carroll HS seem good for 3rd and 4th but still need to run well; Huge toss-up for the final two spots between 5 schools that are tight. Best Geuss Picks would be: (1) Westminster Academy; (2) Miami Country Day School; (3) Westminster Christian School; (4) John Carroll High School; (Final 2 Spots between) Highlands Christian Academy, Palmer Trinity, Doctors Charter, The Pine School, and St. Edwards.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: I love this week of Cross Country! It is Region Reveal Week where we get a glimpse of State Meet potential. Athletes are beginning their tapers and ready to pour out 5-6 months of preparation into a fast, hard run race. It feels like this year is going to be an outstanding one. While defending State Champion Franco Martins sits poised to repeat once again following a few fast tune up over the past couple of weeks, Andrew Cacciatore of Holy Trinity seems hungry to challenge for his title. Martins and Cacciatore have thrown down some fast times on fast course and both have had tremendously good and consistent seasons. This dual has the makings of a classic State race. Looking to break into the party though are Seniors Cal Davidson Turner of Cardinal Mooney and Nicholas Gonzalez from The Geneva School along with Holy Trinity Freshman Trevor Kattenberg who have been hovering around these same spots all year, ready to finish this well and challenge the top two. In addition, Noah Perkins of Seffner Christian, Austin Perry from Oak Hall, and Patrick McNamara of Admiral Faragut have been quietly improving and seem poised to break into the sub 16:00 category. Good luck to all the Class 1A Boys. Finish Strong. Finish Fast!

2A Boys Rankings
By: Bryan Garcia, Tampa Plant HS, bcgfalcons@yahoo.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Oh man. Trinity Prep comes out and shows everyone again why they are about to add another state championship. And that is the only thing I can say with any certainty going into the Regional Championships this weekend. There were so many surprises this past week, including the shear depth of District 4 where Pedro Menendez misses qualifying for Region 1 by 4 points with an 18:07 team average. In general, Region 1 is an interesting region where any team could really make a run at some hardware and get into the top 2. Bishop Kenny is the favorite and the other 4 teams made up of Bolles, West Florida Tech, Pensacola Catholic, and Bishop Snyder seemingly punching their ticket. Wakulla appears to have the 6th spot, but Episcopal of Jacksonville is coming in strong down the stretch. In Region 2, its much more solidified with Trinity Prep who had a 16:14 team average at their district meet. Lake Highland Prep is another top 10 team in the region, but after that, 3-6 could go anyway between Gulf, Nature Coast, North Marion, and what I expect will be Wesley Chapel. Region 3 is the best region in 2A in my mind with 5 teams capable of getting into the top 10 at the State Meet. Immokalee appears to have the region won with Labelle the runner-up, but you can not count those McKeel out or those Hillsborough County Schools Berekeley Prep and Tampa Jesuit. And then in Region 4, we have what I call the 2A "Region of Death". The top 5 spots seem fairly secure with Pine Crest looking to win a regional championship, and then spots 2-5 being held by Calvary Christian (Ft. Lauderdale), Ransom Everglades, Titusville, and Rockledge. Last year, teams 5-9 were seperated by just 24 points. This year does not appear to be any more wide open from spots 6-9 where Key West appears to have the upperhand, but Astronaut, Satellite, and Cardinal Gibbons could all make it with a great day of racing. With the postseason in full swing, this weekends regional championships promise to deliver exciting results setting up for a great 2014 State Championship.

REGION 1 RANKINGS
Overall (Prev.) Region Team Name  Comments:
2(2) 1 Bishop Kenny BK rolled to a district title score with a 30 second 1-5 split that saw all 5 get into the top 10.  With a 17:04 team average, they are clearly the next best team next to TP in 2A.
6(7) 2 Bolles HS 17:20 as the runner-up to BK in District 4. This team has quietly moved into the top 5 picture and could even pose a threat to a top 3 run down the line.
7(NR) 3 West Fl. Tech A surprising late season push landed WFT with the District 1 championship also placing its 1-5 in the top 1. With 17:35 team average, another push will get them top 2 in Regions.
11(5). 4 Pensacola Ca. District Runner-up to WFT with a 17:46 team average. They have had some illnesses, still finding themselves one great race away from a top 2 finish at Regionals.
13(15) 5 Bishop Snyder 3rd place 17:43 average at a tough District 4. Another team that with a great day could sneak into the top 2 this weekend, and another possible top 10 finisher at States in 2 weeks.
Last Team In: Wakulla HS- Won District 2 with an 18:11 team average on a challeging ARP course. Looking for another great performance to qualify for the State Meet after taking 6th last year by 4 points.
Next Team In: Episcopal of Jax- Had a 4th place finishing (18:05 average) at District 4 picking up the last qualifying spot for Regionals. After missing the state meet by a mere 4 points last year, this year will be just as as close between Episcopal and Wakulla.

REGION 2 RANKINGS
Overall (Prev.) Region Team Name   Comments:
1(1) 1 Trinity Prep 16:14 team average, 17 point district championship. Another incredible performance as they head into Regionals and States the clear favorite in 2A.
7(6) 2 Lake Highland Placed second to TP in District 8 (17:32 team average). In a district overshadowed by TP, they could finish as runner-up in their region and top 5 at the State Meet.
NR(NR) 3 Gulf HS 17:58 team average for the victory in District 7. I clearly did not give this much team enough credit picking up their 4th district title in a row as heading into a strong region.
NR(NR) 4 Nature Coast Had a 17:55 team average placing second to Gulf in District 7. They had the 2nd and 3rd place finishers, but a 2:29 1-5 gap hurt them. Experience will help this young team.
NR(NR) 5 North Marion  Won District 6 with an 18:04 team average. They placed 1-5 in the top 12 and came a way with a strong victory heading into Regionals.
Last Team In: Wesley Chapel- With an 18:11 average at District 7, they placed third to Gulf and NCT, but 4 of their top 5 PR'd. This team has a good shot at squeaking into the State Meet.
Next Team In: Eastside HS- Won District 5 by 57 points with an 18:20 average. The district champs get the short end of the stick placing top 5 guys 2-6 in the district with no one under 18 minutes.

REGION 3 RANKINGS
Overall (Prev.) Region Team Name  Comments:
4(NTI) 1 Labelle HS A strong District championship performance has Labelle in command of a strong Region. With a 17:12 average, they held off Immokalee and land in a top 5 spot in the state.
5(9) 2 Immokalee HS Runner-up in District 12 to Labelle by 11 points with a 17:18 average. Moving up into the top 5, if they have a good performance this weekend they could be Region champs.
8(4) 3 McKeel Acad. Placed 6 guys in the top 10 at District 9 for the big win (17:37 average). Runner-up average was 18:50, this weekend will show us how they match up against stout competition.
9(12) 4 Berkeley Prep Hillsborough County Championships momentum pushed them to District 10 win over Jesuit(17:33 average). This team is believing, who knows what they can do with 2 races to go.
10(8) 5 Tampa Jesuit District runner-up by 3 points to Berkeley with a 17:34 team average. With a tough Regional meet this weekend, Jesuit finds themselves in the mix with Berkeley for a top 3 spot.
Last Team In: Lemon Bay HS- 3rd at District 12 with an 18:27 average. Qualified for States 5 times since 2004 placing 5th or 6th in the Region every time and it looks like history will repeat itself in 2014.
Next Team In: Dunbar HS- Finished 4th in District 12 with an 18:33 team average. Made it out by 2 points marking only the 2nd time since 2004 that they made it to Regionals. That's a heck of an accomplishment, but making it to the State Championship could be the first time in school history if they do it Saturday.

REGION 4 RANKINGS = 2A "Region of Death"
Overall
 (Prev.)
Region Team Name  Comments:
3(3) 1 Pine Crest HS With a 17:08 team average and a District 15 win, PC looks ready to take a Regional Championship. With another solid race, they find themselves in position for top 3 in the State.
12(NTI) 2 Calvery Christian  This team had a coming out party at District 15 with a 17:35 average to finish runner-up to PC. They could follow suit this weekend with another runner-up, this time in the Region.
14(10) 3 Ransom Ever. Ran strong at a tough District 16 course to an 18:08 team average for the win. Putting 5 in the top 15, Ransom is looking for a strong Regional performance to get into the top 3.
15(11) 4 Titusville HS 17:41 team average to be District 13 champions. With a strong Region down south, they will have to pack it up again to take a shot at getting into the top 2.
NR(NR) 5 Rockledge HS Finished as runner-up in District 13 to THS with a 17:56 average. This team has come around nicely and looks to make it 2 trips in a row to the State Championship.
Last Team In: Key West HS- 18:23 team average at District 16 to be runner-up to Ransom. They have qualified 3 years in a row and with a strong showing, they should be in Tallahassee again on the 15th.
Next Team In: Cardinal Gibb.- Placed 3rd in District 15 with 18:11 team average with top 5 in the top 20. The last time they made the State Meet was 2009 as they hope to break that streak this weekend.
Next Team In: Astronaut HS- Had an 18:22 average, this team popped one out at District 13 to get 3rd. They missed the State Meet last year by 1 spot amounting to 7 points and could be just as close.
Next Team In: Satellite HS- 18:26 team average to 4th by 3 points to Astronaut at District 13. This team is in the mix with Gibbons and Astronaut and with a solid day could make it to Tallahassee.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: With an exciting week of district meets in the books, we have some fast times in and a storm is brewing as the individual championship race could go either way in one region. In what can only be described as a friendly battle, Chas Cook holds off teammate Jesse Millson (15:45-15:46) for the District 8 championship setting up for what could be an even faster race in Region 2. The race between Joel Lacy, Gabriel Correa, Mason Jones, Michael Kennedy, and a now healthy, revamped Nic Jacobsen could be the craziest, closest region race between multiple runners of all regions in the state. Whoever wins Region 4 becomes the favorite to win a state championship. Region 3 is a little more spread out with Urias Velasquez the clear favorite, but a strong performance by Labelle's Omar Figueroa breaking up the 1-2 punch of Velasquez and Alejandro Ruiz. Finally Region 1 presents a region of abundant depth of 16:50-17:10 guys. In addition, this extraodinary group of runners became the third highest group of 2A Classification runners to break 16 in the past decade. Since the 2004 cross country season, only 2004 and 2009 had more sub 16 minute 5k guys. 2004 had 9 runners break the mark and 2009 had 11 runners go under 16 minutes. Also, Trinity Prep enforces their dominance with 5 runners in the top 25. 6 individuals have broken 16 this year tying that for the most since 2010, although we still have a major portion of the season to go. We haven't seen this kind of competition in 2A in the last 5 years or since the days of Barker, Wallace, and Montoya, or sense I graduated. I want to congratulate all of those who qualified for Regionals, whether individually, as a team, or both. It is a big accomplishment that goes unnoticed now adays with so many different districts but should still be recognized. With October now in the books, this weekend will show give us a better picture of what the top 10 at the State Meet should look like on November 15th.

Athlete Name, Grade – Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:
1. Joel Lacy - 11th - Calvary Christian Acad. (1) Won District 15 with a 16:36. Until he loses to someone in 2A he is the man to beat as he looks for his 2nd straight Regional Title against a tough Correa in Region 4.
2. Urias Velasquez - 12th - Immokalee HS (3) 2 solid wins from Collier County Championships and District 12. He was the 2nd 2A runner in elite FSU race and is primed to make a run at a state championship.
3. Gabriel Correa - 11th - Ramson Everglades (2) Had a strong 16:52 win at District 16. Goes into Regionals with the best time in 2A and will get a good test from Lacy as he looks for his 1st individual Regional Title.
4. Chas Cook - 11th - Trinity Prep (4) He blazed through District 8 to a 15:45 PR. He is also look for his 1st individual Regional Title, but will get stiff competition from Millson in Region 2.
5. Jesse Millson - 11th - Trinity Prep (7) Came out guns blazing at District 8 breaking 16 for the 1st time and nearly beating teammate Cook with a new PR (15:46). Look for him to push Cook at Region 2.
6. Mason Jones - 10th - Titusville HS (5) Cruised to victory in District 13 in 16:25. Watch for him down the stretch as he has a huge race against Correa and Lacy at Region 4 this Saturday.
7. Connor Vaughan - 12th - Wolfson HS (18) Sprinted through District 4 breaking 16 for the first time with a new PR of 15:59. That marks his 4th win a row going into Region 1 as the favorite.
8. Zack Weaver - 12th - Pasco HS (8) Won District 7 in 16:12. Had a 25 second gap between himself and 2nd place, but he will face a loaded Region 2 this weekend.
9. Trent Mandato - 10th - Trinity Prep (11) Placed 3rd in a stacked District 8 with a 16:09 PR. He has come along well this season and will try to help Trinity Prep go 1-3 at Region 2.
10. Tyler Skidelsky - 12th - Lake Highland Prep (6) Ran 16:17 to place 4th at District 8. He was the 1st guy to cross the finish not wearing a Trinity Prep jersey and this weekend's Region 2 could have the same result.
11. Michael Kennedy - 10th - Pine Crest HS (9) Finished 3 second behind Lacy at District 15 in 16:39. He looks to lead PC to a Region Championship with a strong performance this weekend.
12. Trevor Foley - 9th - Nature Coast Tech (10) District 7 runner-up to Weaver in a time of 16:37. He is in a tough Region 2 stacked full of young talent as he goes for an incredilbe top 5 finish as a freshmen.
13. Nic Jacobsen - 11th - St. Andrews HS (12) Ran 16:36 at Palm Beach County to finish 2nd before winning District 14 in 17:46. Took it easy at Districts which plays into his favor heading into a tough Region 4.
14. Jason Caldwell - 12th - Tampa Jesuit (14) Grabbed his first district championship at District 10 in a 16:34. He is gunning for his a top 5 finish at what is setting up to be a fast Region 3.
15. James Gehret - 12th - Bishop Snyder (23) Runner-up in District 4 to Vaughan with a PR of 16:33. He looks to follow that with another runner-up performance, this time at Regionals.
16. Jordan Lance - 12th - Arnold HS (NR) District champion at District 1 with a time of 16:43. It appears it was his first race since September, but he has now set himself up to finish in the top 3 at Region 1.
17. Aaron Goldstein - 11th - Trinity Prep  (25) Finished 5th in his first outing since Pre-States in a time of 16:42. Coming on strong down the stretch, he adds to the depth on a stacked TP team.
18. Sadrick Severe - 12th - Mount Dora HS (NR) Picked up his first district XC title in 16:47 at District 6. Runs in Region 2, well documented for its abundance of talent. A dark horse of sorts to climb into the top 5.
19. Antonio Gomez - 9th - Frostproof HS (NR) District 9 champion in 16:52. Rolled off 3 consecutive wins including Polk County Championship in a PR of 16:35. The freshmen will be in the top 5 hunt at Region 3.
20. Omar Figueroa - 11th - Labelle HS (NR) District 12 runner-up to Velasquez in a 43 second PR (16:43). This guy came completely out of left field, but strong running like that puts him in the mix at Region 3.
21. Alejandro Ruiz - 11th - Immokalee HS  (22) Placed 3rd at District 12 with a time of 16:46. Ran a huge PR (16:24) at Collier County Championships two weeks ago and is poised for a strong race at Regoin 3.
22. Ryan Welch - 11th - Pine Crest HS (NR) Finished 3rd at District 15 in a time of 16:48. Goes into Region 4 where, if he plays his cards right, will be looking at a top 5 finish.
23. Patrick Salas - 10th - Trinity Prep (NR) Ran a 16:47 PR at District 8 placing 6th. He was TP's 5th man easily find himself in the top 5 at Region 2 and, at worse, a top 10 finish.
24. Mason Gerry - 11th - Bishop Kenny (20) Finished 3rd at District 4 in a time of 16:49. BK's number 1 man is coming off a successful October running a 16:39 PR at FSU going into an interesting Region 1.
25. Husam Ossi - 12th - Bishop Kenny (21) 4th at District 4 with a time of 16:52. In a district where finishers 3-8 were seperated by 15 seconds, Region 1 has the makings of surprises and craziness galore.

Notable Names Who Were District No-shows:
In what I can only address as bizarre, two runners who ran the entire season did not race at their respective district meets. Senior Mark Edward from Wolfson High and Junior Sidney Perry from Satellite High appeared to have no results from their meets this past week. Edward ran the week before palcing 2nd in a PR of 16:22. Edward, who was having a solid season, placed 9th in the state in the 3200m race in the spring (9:42) and was coming on big late in the season. After a win at the Clermont City Classic, Perry placed 14th at Holy Trinity before finishing 10th at Cape Coast Conference Championships. Both had top 30 times in the state this season in 2A. Also, Anderson Bobo apparently was replaced by John Bobo for the postseason placing 7th at District 8 in a time of 16:49.
