Through the years, Creekside senior Jessica Taylor has developed into one of the top distance runners in the state of Florida. This year she helped lead Creekside to their first ever 3A Cross Country Finals championship and leaves as the school record holder in the 5k. She will be continuing her running career at the Division 1 level as a member of the University of South Florida Bulls.
What was the recruiting process like for you?
It was a completely new experience for me, but it was really exciting and also stressful at the same time.
Where else did you consider?
I also considered the University of Florida and the University of North Florida.
Why in the end USF?
It was a tough decision, but I ended up choosing USF because I loved the campus, and I can just see myself living there. I also really liked the coach and the team when I got to meet them. Additionally, the offer was better and my brother goes there.
How important was it to stay in state?
It wasn't super important to me, but I didn't really see any reason to go out of state when there are plenty of good colleges here for me. Plus, I love the warmer weather and didn't want to be too far from my family so I can still visit often.
What are you looking forward to most about being a Bull?
I'm looking forward to pretty much everything about it and the new experiences.
What are the goals for college?
My goals for college are to help improve my team, make good grades, make some incredible memories, and to hopefully get on the path to become a veterinarian.
What will you remember the most about your time at Creekside?
Definitely all of the amazing times I've had while on the XC and track team. I can't imagine what high school would have been like without running.
How awesome was it to cap off your cross country career with a state title?
It was amazing! That was our team goal since the beginning of summer and everyone worked so hard to make it happen. Words can't describe that moment and how happy everyone was. I wouldn't have chosen any other team or coaches to share that moment with and it was a great way to end my last cross country season.
