After a strong performance at UF two weekends ago, Ashley Brasovan leapfrogs defending Foot Locker National Champion Kathy Kroeger (TN) and last year's runner-up Aurora Scott (VA) to grab #1 spot in the MileSplit US Foot Locker South "Power Rankings". Kayla Hale and Emilie Amaro, who qualified for Foot Locker Nationals last year, find themselves in the sixth and seventh positions.
This puts Brasovan in an odd position of being a potential favorite for the national title, even though she failed to qualify for Nationals out of the South Region meet last year--when she finished 19th at the meet last season. With some additional big meet experience and two frustrating years at McAlpine behind her, we will all be hoping this is her year and she has learned to get out fast at McAlpine Park in NC. If she does pull it off, she'd become the first Floridian to win Footlocker Nationals.
No Florida boys were mentioned this week. Previouslly, Danny Manco (currently out with a minor stress fracture) and Joseph Franklin received "on the bubble" shout outs.
