Damion Thomas couldn't contain his excitement after the finals of the 110 meter hurdles at the Pepsi Florida Relays on Friday.

“This is probably the biggest meet that I have been at in my high school career so I wanted to make an exclamation point," said Thomas.

The sophomore from Northeast High School in Oakland Park had absolutely no idea what his time was and it was a very impressive time.

“What was on my mind was winning the race, nothing else," Thomas said. “I wasn't thinking about a time."

He initially couldn't have known his time because he ran off the track, clapped his hands, yelled in excitement and went directly into the registration tent.

Moments later when his official time of 13.64 was announced, Thomas took it in stride.

In stride? Thomas was .10 of a second off of the sophomore national record of 13.63.

“The time will come," said Thomas. “I was that close. It's OK though, I still got the 15-year olds national record."
