American athletes haven't competed in Cuba for nearly two decades and this past weekend three Florida standouts as well as myself had the chance to visit the island nation for the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational.
Nicole Greene, a University of North Carolina signee, three time state champion, and the reigning New Balance Indoor Nationals champion in the high jump, took home gold in Havana with a mark of 6'0". She also competed in the long jump, but did not fare as well. Watch Nicole's jump sequence and see what she had to say after the meet.
South Florida was represented by two athletes at the meet. Miami Northwestern's Twanisha Terry, the 3A state champion in the 100 and 200 meters was one of only two sophomores on the trip which promoted international experience for up and coming athletes. Terry finished second in the 100 (11.82) behind Georgia's Cassondra Hall and was first in the girl's 200 meter dash (23.74w) and a member of the first place 4x100m relay.
