Jeff Demps Will Wear Orange and Blue

Jeff Demps will be one of the nation's fastest athletes hitting the track this spring and in the fall he was perhaps the fastest football player in the nation.  The 10.25 sprinter and pigskin prospect has announced that he will be attending the University of Florida in 2008.  ESPN ranked the South Lake HS the #4 athlete on its ESPN 150 poll of top football recruits in the nation.  Demps' decision to attend UF came after much deliberation between the University of Tennessee and the University of Kentucky.  In the end the Gator runningback-to-be chose UF because of the atmosphere and because he liked Coach Urban Meyer's pledge to assemble the fastest team in the country.  Demps will certainly be a crown jewel in that attempt.

Track and field fans, take heart.  Demps will continue his exploits on the track under Coach Mike Holloway, who is considered by many to be one of the best sprint coaches in the United States.  Demps is the #1 returner at 100 meters in Florida, and #2 in the entire nation.  He ran a 10.25 at Junior Nationals last summer and had a 10.32 win at the Florida Relays last March.

In the announcement on ESPNU, Demps donned a truly hideous orange and blue wig, but the announcer (and Gator fans everywhere) loved it.
