Brasovan's Back! Florida's Only Foot Locker Champion Qualifies For US Olympic Marathon Trials

In Florida's long line of great distance runners only one can claim to have won the prestigious Foot Locker National Championship. That distinction belongs to Ashley Brasovan, who was first in 2007 and runner-up in 2008 behind Jordan Hasay. After battling injuries while at Duke University, Brasovan never peaked after high school. In a recent interview she told us that she had moved out to Boulder, Colorado, after completing graduate school in the June. The Wellington High School standout said she started competing in the sport again this fall.

"I am hoping to hit the Olympic Trials standard in the half marathon (sub-1:15) this season and get some new PR's on the road circuit. I am just enjoying having fun with the sport right now and switching to something a little different from what I did in college!"

Brasovan didn't have to wait long to qualify for the Olympic Marathon Trials February 13th in Los Angeles, California. She completed the 13.1 mile course in Jacksonville in 1:14.30, with a 10k split at 35:21, and an average pace of 5:41 per mile. The short statured Brasovan, who just celebrated her 25th birthday on December 28th, was runner-up in her age group and the 9th fastest woman on the day.

She took to social media afterwards to share her excitement.

"I don't even think words can describe how I feel right now. Took 7 years but it was so worth the wait. Thank you to Matt Hensley (pictured with me above). He's a former UF runner and has been coaching me since moving to Golden, CO in July. I owe him quite a bit of the credit. Also, thanks to Carly Glasser and Kelsey Beckmann for being the best support team anyone could ask for today. Olympic Trials and LA here I come!" #13.1#letsdothis #1:14FTW #olympictrials2016#RoadtoRio #teamhensley
