Yes, South Florida Has Speed, But Don't Sleep On Dr. Phillip's Alvin Bryant

While the South Florida sprinters were shining at the Louie Bing Classic, defending 4A 100m runner-up, 200m state champion, and LSU signee Alvin Bryant was making his own splash at the National Training Center in Clermont. The Panthers standout hopped on the same track that some of the world's best athletes train on with Lance Brauman and his Pure Athletics, Adidas based sprint group.

Bryant guided a group of five runners to sub 11s times in their 2016 debuts. His state leading 10.54 was the third fastest ever in his career only between his 10.50 and 10.51 at the 2015 state meet and for a short time Saturday was the number one time in the country (now US#4). Bryant told us afterwards the key part of the race was his start.

"That always determines how my race will go. Knowing I had the top time in the nation for a short while and the top in the state right now just keeps me grounded to keep working. I know if I have it one week it can be taken away the next week just as fast."

One person Bryant says he is looking forward to running against is is freshman phenom Tyrese Cooper. Cooper ranks #1 in the 200 and 400 in the country, and just set freshman records in both events to go with his FL#2 and US#6 10.57 100m.

"It doesn't bother me if people aren't talking about Alvin Bryant. It won't stop me from working hard and dropping my times. The kid (Tyrese Cooper) is running good and I can't wait to race him. He's a great competitor and if we don't meet at Florida Relays, we will at states. Be prepared to see IMG Academy on fire because the flash and zoom are going to go at it all day long."
