A week after signing with Ole Miss, Rockledge senior Kaira Simmons further proved why she is one of the best long jumpers in the state and in the country. Simmons kicked off her road to state and the 2A District 13 Championship with a state leading and US#5 long jump of 20'1.25". Coach Alex Jamison says the goal is to have her at 21 feet by the end of the year.
"We want to go 21 feet. Danielle Phillips, now at LSU, jumped 20'5" for us last year. Kaira's goal is to beat her."
According to our flrunners.com database, if Simmons can go 21 feet that'd be a clear state record by almost six inches!
The senior also competes in the triple jump and 200m dash for the Raiders, but fortunately for her the long jump is one of the first events of the day. We look forward to seeing how close Kaira get and how far she moves up the All-Time list!
