Golden West: Eutsey, Whittaker Go 1st-2nd, US #1 53.22; Egan 2nd in PV; Hopkins 4th w/10.25w

Ebony Eutsey and Lanie Whittaker sure made us proud last night at the Golden West Invitational in California. The two Miami girls went 1-2 in the Girls 400m, easily beating out the competition with times of 53.23 and 53.43. The times are personal bests for both girls and Ebony's time puts her as #1 fastest time in the nation this year. Lanie's time puts her at US #5 this year.

Riley Egan of St. Thomas Aquinas also shined brightly, finishing in second place with a vault of 16-2.75. That is his sixth time of over 16 feet this year, but short of his PR and the state meet record of 16-7 that he set last month. Riley's teammate Cody Riggs had a fine showing in two events with a 38.32 (5th) in the 300H and a long jump of 23--5.75 (4th).

Derrick Hopkins had an absolutely huge time of 10.25, which earned him 4th place on the night and the 2nd fastest time for a Floridian in the event this year. This one will have a star by it though because the wind was above the legal limit. That wind helped propel Georgian D'Angello Cherry to a 10.16! Freshman Dedric Dukes was the final Florida finisher with a fourth place time of 48.25 in the 400 meters.

Soon-to-be football player Connor Revord was a DNF in the 2 Mile.
