UCF Competes At LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The UCF track and field squad competed at its second indoor meet of the season Saturday at the Purple Tiger Invitational hosted by LSU. Several athletes had strong performances in the meet, including newcomer LesSundra Ford, who won the high jump.

Ford, a freshman from Fort Worth, Texas and competing in only her second collegiate meet, jumped to a height of 5' 8.75" (1.75m), besting her nearest competitor by three inches. Teammate Ann Larsen placed sixth, jumping 5' 5.75" (1.67m).

The squad continued to perform well in the 400-meter dash. Three UCF runners finished in the top 14, with freshman LaToya Williams placing third with a time of 59.42 and Tavia Record right behind with a fourth-place time of 59.49. Rounding out the UCF trio was Romanda Garvin, who finished 14th with a time of 1:01.48.

In the 3000m, sophomore Andrea Morrow placed ninth with a time of 10:47.08. Senior Amy Giles finished 14th, posting a time of 11:00.50.

Senior Sara Dillman followed up her third-place finish last week in the 3000m with another terrific showing in the 5000m. Her time of 18:17.18 was good enough for another third-place finish. Megan Crum finished tenth in the same event with a mark of 19:50.25

There were other performances of note. Roxanne Culver enjoyed a seventh-place finish in the 60m hurdles, posting a time of 8.98. Meanwhile, in the distance medley, UCF placed third, recording a time of 12:28.89. In addition, the 400m relay team placed fifth with a time of 4:02.43.

Rounding out the meet was the one-mile event. Freshman Karen Kozub continued her strong showing, finishing third with a time of 5:17.28. Behind her in fifth place was Astrid Claessens who posted a time of 5:23.96

UCF returns to indoor action Sunday, February 1 as they compete in the Gator Invitational in Gainesville.
