Expect exciting races at the Legends of Alachua County Invitational this Saturday and Sunday in Gainesville. MileSplit FL will be on site again, streaming the races. Saturday's and Sunday's races feature Collegiate, Masters, and High School races. Saturday running includes the Mile Run, the 600m, the 200m, the 5000m (Collegiate only), the 400m, and the collegiate DMR. Sunday's races feature the 800m, the 60mH, the 60m, the 3000m, and the 4x4 Relays.
Here are just a few of the anticipated high school matchups.
Girl's 1-Mile
Alyson Johnson of Creekside was 2nd last week in 4:57.93. Her sister, Sydney is ranked #4 with a 5:00.04. Joining the Johnsons, however, will be the Roy twins from Spruce Creek, Mackenzie and Arianna. It will be the Roy's season opener and their first time running indoors. Outdoors in the FHSAA 4A State finals in the 1600m, Alyson Johnson won with a 4:53.34, Mackenzie Roy was 2nd in 4:54.86, and Arianna was 3rd in 4:58.10.
Boy's 200m
Dylan Woodruffe of IMG Academy has to be the favorite in the 200m. He won at RADD last weekend with a state-leading and US #7 21.29.
Boy's 800m
Zack Gunderson, running for Track Legend, leads the state at this time in the 800m with a 1:55.70 that he ran two weeks ago in winning at Jimmy Carnes. Montverde Academy's Lucas Coan has run 1:56.91 this season and is ranked at FL #6.
Girl's 60mH
FL #'s 2, 4, and 5 are scheduled to go head to head in the 60mH. Chelsi Williams, running for the Lakeland Incredibles, Nia Armstrong running for the VAST Track and Field Club, and Sydney Harris of IMG.
Boy's 60mH
Jabari Armstrong of VAST Track and Field Club, currently ranked FL #2 with a 7.95, will be challenged by FL #3, Camryn Mcroy of Track Legend, who has run 8.18, and Andrew Jackson's Nieko Garnes, who is ranked FL #6 with an 8.41.
Girl's 60m
Montverde's Dasia Reed comes in with the #1 seed and a state-leading 7.48. She has challengers in every lane. Avery Alicea, running unattached, Nakira Hudson of Montverde Academy, Sarah Marshall , running unattached, Cailyn Easton of Holy Trinity, Sofia Regazzi of Montverde Academy, Julienne Warner of IMG Academy, and Arima Turner of Montverde Academy are all scheduled in heat 1.
Boy's 60M
IMG Academy's Dylan Woodruffe will try to win back to back 60m races. Woodruffe ran a state leading 6.84 in winning last weekend at the RADD Invitational. His challenge will come on all sides. Leon Sullivan Jr., of Miami Norland has run a 6.71 60m (outdoors). Woodruff's teammate Avian Edwards-Pla has run 6.93.
Girl's 400m
Nakira Hudson and Dasia Reed of Montverde Academy are scheduled to run, along with 8th grader Sarah Marshall from Georgia. Hudson is ranked #3 in the state with a 55.53 this season. Reed leads the state in the 200m with a 23.69 and is stepping up to the 400m along with Marshall who has run a 23.98 in the 200m this season.
Boy's 400m
IMG Academy's Avian Edwards-Pla has run 49.80 this season and is FL #3 ranked, Jordan Fennell of Warner Robins and Intensity Athletics in Georgia was 4th at Jimmy Carnes in the 400m with a 49.80, and Ayden Henley of Montverde Academy has run 50.33.
