Good Knight: Hillsborough Hurdler/Jumper Davidson Picks UCF

Hillsborough hurdler/jumper Daneesha Davidson has decided to make the short trip up I-4 for college and attend UCF. Davidson is the 4th ranked senior 300m hurdler in the state of Florida with a personal best of 43.78, which ranks 38th nationally for the class of 2017. She also boasts a PR of 39'1" in the triple jump. We caught up with Davidson, who says she will be competing in both events at the next level, to talk about the recruiting process, her goals for 2017 and more.

What was the recruiting process like for you?

The recruiting process was intense because each school showed how I would be developed in their program as well as the classroom. So it was more about how I felt on a personal level and how I bonded with the coaches within the three days I had to spend with them, which led me to my decision to go to UCF.

Where all did you visit/consider?

FIU, USF, UCF, & Mississippi State were my official visits

In the end you chose UCF. What was it that sold you on the Knights?

What really sold me on UCF was that not only did they have a good program they really understood that you're a student before anything, and their average GPA shows that they make sure the girls are getting it done in the classroom. I believe that UCF will allow me the opportunity to be a great student athlete.

How was your relationship with the coaching staff and other girls on the team?

The coaching staff and the girls made me feel at home. It was a great bond from the moment I got there.  I know you might not get that at other programs.

You've made it to state in the hurdles as well as the triple jump. Do you plan to do both at UCF?

I will be doing the 400 hurdles as well as triple jump in college. I
love both of the events and it would be hard for me to choose one over the other.

What are your goals for 2017?

My goals for this year are to start of the season with some great times/marks and make it to states to be able to compete for that number one spot. I think I'm very capable of it but understand it's going to take a whole lot of hard work, because it not going to come easy.

Who would you like to say thank you to for helping you get to where you are at today?

I would like to thank my high school coaches, Joesph Sipp, Kareem Webb, and Aleous Chambers, because without them I understand that i probably would not be where I am today. Lastly and most importantly, I would like to thank my mom who stood by my side throughout the whole process.

What are you looking forward to most about being a Knight?

As a Knight I'm looking forward to training and competing with the excellent group of girls that's apart of the Knight Track & Field family. Charge on. ⚔️.
