Scouting Report: Miami Northwestern Girls


The Miami Northwestern Lady Bulls have been a fixture at the top of the podium for the last eight seasons. In 2017, they go for their 9th consecutive and return a group stacked with upperclassmen. Coach Carmen Jackson gives us an inside look at this year's team which already has won the prestigious Louie Bing Classic to start the season.

How did your team fare in 2016?

Last year at state the team finished great however, there were mistakes made that cost the team to lose some points.
Who are your top returners this season?

Within our team there are various top returners for the season.Twanisha Terry(SR), De'Andreah Young(SR) Kaylah Clark(SR), Taranique Alexander(SR), Ayoola Globade(JR), Ulani Toussaint(JR) Channel Dawson(JR), and Alyssa Richards(JR).

Were there any mistakes or opportunities you felt your team didn't capitalize on last year?

A BIG ERROR of the season was losing the 4x4 at State Championship. We control our own destiny.

Are there any impact freshmen coming in or transfers? 

A couple incoming freshman coming in who could make an impact are Markalah Hart (hurdler/sprinter) Samariah Ferguson (hurdler) Lakeria Gathers (long distance), and Gabrielle Grant (jumper).

What has the preseason training been like?

The preseason training was getting the girls back into shape preparing them for the season. I'm focusing on getting the girls prepared physically, and mentally for the season. 

What meets are you keying in on?

I'm keying on the following meets: Louie Bing, Bob Hayes, FL Relays, GMAC, District, Regional, and State. 

What are the goals for this year?

The goals for this year squad is to train hard, give our all at each meet, motivate one another, and be patient with progress throughout the season. 

How would describe this year's team?

To describe this team would be a lot of development needed with the younger kids, but it's a solid strong team for 2017.
