WATCH: Miramar Jamal Walton Goes 45.99 At BCAA South Qualifier

(Watch Jamal Walton run a new PR and US#2 45.99 to win the BCAA South Qualifier.)

The 2017 track and field season saw a change of schools and a change of attitude for Jamal Walton, who represented the Cayman Islands at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships. Walton made the switch to Miramar High School where he joined a loaded Patriots squad. Since that time he's dropped his PR in the 200m down to a wind-legal 20.75. Recently he set new bests in the 100m dash 10.5 and 45.99 in the 400m.

His 100m time puts him in the top twenty-five nationally while his 400m mark his second in the nation to only fellow South Floridian and former MGX teammate Tyrese Cooper who ran 45.45 at the Louie Bing Classic. Walton has said he's on the come back and would drop a 45 second mark in the near future and he did just that.

Although Walton and Cooper had several early season battles it is unlikely when the pair will meet again. Since Walton moved to Miramar and Cooper to Norland, a state series showdown will not be in order. The Patriots speedster will be one of the favorites for a state title in the 100, 200, and 400 and if he chooses to run on the team's 4x1 or 4x4 relays giving his squad an excellent shot for a team trophy as well.
