Salute To Seniors: Darius Charon - Lake Gibson High School

The 2016-2017 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.

Today we salute Lake Gibson High School hurdler Darius Charon.

What was your most memorable race/moment?

My first time ever running the 300m hurdles. I knew I had found my event.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

Bryce Duncan. He pushed me to do my best every meet we both attended.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment is graduating with highest honors while being a triathlete.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would've found a coach who knew how to train for hurdles. I would've started hurdles my first year.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

My most difficult obstacles were not knowing good form as well as not having a coach who could teach me good form.

What will you miss the most?

The fun trips to track meets on buses or in vans with my teammates.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

Decide your event while young and prepare for it more and more every year.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

He improved my stamina over all.

What are your college plans?

I will be attending Keiser University on a track scholarship as well as being a football walk on while studying biomedical sciences.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

Thank you to all those friends and teammates that pushed me when I wanted to quit and making me a better person.
