GREENVILLE, SC--Making their annual trip northward to South Carolina for this year's Furman Invitational, Boone runners and coaches knew
they had a top finisher on their hands this year. Senior Daniel Parker of Boone High School, with his 9:10 3200m in track and
a 14:49 earlier this season in CC, was ready to face off against many of the best in the Southeast and co-Footlocker National hopefuls.
Saturday Parker lead his team to a 17th place finish in a field of 49 teams from around the Southeast. Parker would finish the 5000 meter race in third place--just behind two of the favorites to qualify for Nationals this year, Scott Fuqua of Alabama and of course the great Joe Thorne, Georgia's finest. Parker's time was a very respectable 15:37, just a second behind Fuqua on the extremly hilly Furman University course. Congratulations to Boone HS and Daniel Parker...Daniel is helping Florida make its great statement to the nation that Florida distance runners won't settle for mediocre anymore!
